Magical Girls! You either hate them or love them, with their glittery transformation sequences, their powerful friendship and the cute mascots!

With magical girls mostly being associated with kids shows, this genre is mostly overlooked by the anime communtiy. The young age of the characters, the middle school (or even elementary school) troubles, the incredibly cute outfits. People tend to avoid it.
Unless, it has a dark twist, like Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica.

The anime shocked a lot of people, expecting just a normal Magical Girl show, which made it this well known. But enough about the anime, I am talking about the manga here.
The Madoka franchise has a lot of spinoff manga under it's name. Of course there is the manga and the novel that follow the anime (the anime came first), a spinoff following Mami Tomoe's story, and many more to follow. For example another magical girl searching for her missing sister. The twist is, no one knows about the sister, like she has never existed.
Multiple manga's have been "adapted" into movies and follow them closely. So if you are interested in checking this series out, both the manga and anime is equally as good!

For a more unknown and shorter manga series, check out Miracle Dieter Miyuki. A short manga of only 8 chapters/2 volumes. Released back in 2005, this Sailor Moon inspired manga made it's overlooked debut. Instead of fighting evil to save the world from destruction, Miyuki is fighting evil to help all the women to stay healthy!
Yukimi, a chubby high school junior discovers a magical dumbbell, giving her the ability to change into the Miracle Dieter Miyuki, a beautiful slender woman in a revealing outfit. She fights off an evil chef trying to tempt girls into eating calorie-rich food, making them gain weight incredibly fast!
The manga doesn't have a real conclusion, basically making it feel like an open ending. This manga is also making it feel like chubby girls can't be beautiful or aren't worth just as much as "skinny" girls. It feels superficial so it's not a big recommendation, just something I stumbled upon.

If you are feeling a bit more like slice of life, then how about Colorful Macchiato Mahou Shoujo wa Tatakawanai. A manga with less than 100 readers on this site.
Magical Girls are known for their amazing fights, but in this manga there are no cool fights or supervillains. This manga follows Momose Minori, a semi normal girl who turns into a magical girl at the slightest hint of danger, for example; someone clapping or accidentally stumbling over things. She gets invited for a magical girls school club together with 4 other semi normal girls who can transform. Together they fight against littering and slowly power up their useless powers!
I enjoyed this manga because of the misunderstandings, a useless mascot and a villain who is trying too hard to get in the way of the girls, it's a short manga so please give it a try!

There is a lot more of Magical Girl manga out there in the world that there's yet to be discovered/translated. I am planning to read as many as possible! I might do part 2's of already written about subjects like cooking manga or magical girls. The next subject has not been chosen so please leave some themes/genres in the comments if you have some recommendations for me!
I do tend to avoid horror/historical and gundam. So please keep that in mind!

Thank you for reading, I hope you found some new interesting manga thanks to this!
If you have some feedback/recommendations for me, please send me a DM or leave a commeny!

Since I've been at home now for almost 7 months due to Covid-19, I decided to make a small blog about the new genres I've been discovering when it comes to manga. Nobody might read it but it's more for myself, to see how much I've grown or to see how much my tastes have changed.

Ever since the anime Wakako-Zake and Koufuku Graffiti came out, (link to the pages at the bottom) I've been looking into cooking manga! Sadly, Koufuku's manga didn't get translated until the end, only around 10 chapters have been turned into english, so I had to look for alternatives.

Which led me to Shinmai Shimai no Futari Gohan, a manga about two step sisters bonding after their parents married each other. Their interactions went from awkward and short to loving and full of fun, while enjoying the food either the youngest sister made or the food they made together. I never expected a manga about food could be this heartwarming, it quickly became one of my favorites.
While it's impressing you with the beautiful visuals of said food, it also includes said recipe in the same chapter! The manga started in 2015 and is still ongoing. I hope it will get an official translation so I can buy the physical volumes and reread them in my spare time.

Another example of making cooking look amazing and enjoyable is this isekai cooking manga one of my friends recommended to me, Isekai Omotenashi Gohan.
I had some doubts about it being an isekai at first. Also the fact they use non existant ingredients made me afraid I wouldn’t relate to the series at first. however it turns out they mostly use ingredients that got isekai'd with them, which made it fun to read!
The manga starts with two sisters who only have eachother who suddenly get transported (along with their entire house) to another world. "Why?" you ask? Because the little sister is the only one who can be the purifying priest to save the world! Or well, purify the unpure area's in the world. The older sister has no duty so she gets a bodyguard called Jade. While trying to bond (which wasn't that successful at the start) she starts cooking. While explaining everything to all the people that she met during the manga, she starts changing people's lives and even saves a few. This manga also shot right into my top 10 since I couldn't stop reading it.

The last one completely about food that I put on hold is Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san.
This one is my least fave of these three that I've shown. The premise is basically about a mysterious and goodlooking girl in highschool, who doesn't talk with her classmates and keeps everything to herself. One of her classmates, Oosawa Yuu, decided she wanted to know more about the girl she definitely developed a crush on. (not officialy mentioned but it's definitely there) Koizumi rejects all tries and Oosawa basically starts stalking her and finds out she eats a lot of ramen. More characters join in during the run of the manga. sadly the translations have stopped at chapter 24. There is another translated chapter after ch.24 but it's already around ch.40, so I decided to put it on hold.
Another reason is because I just couldn't stand Oosawa Yuu being this incredibly annoying being.

Cooking manga always make me feel at ease and make me imagine all the delicious food I could make if I printed out all the recipes. I might try them out when I have the motivation for it which, honestly, got lost a few months in Quarantine/Lockdown. Now I'm trying my best to think of things I want to do after we can safely go outside again.
I hope I can discover more soothing cooking manga like this.
If anyone has more recommendations like these (excluding Shokugeki No Soma) please comment down below!

I want to thank you sincerely if you read this, it might not seem like much but it means more than you think to me!
