July 2024: Update

Sorry for the very long wait. As a sign of life we want to provide some updates for certain challenges, which took place over the last couple of months. I am aware that some challenges such as the Genre-Challenge, as well as its counterparts like the Genre-DJ Challenge still require work. We already thought about possible changes, but they still need to be checked for availability before they will overhauled eventually.

Nevertheless, here are some changes, additions, etc. They are also apparent in the indivual challenges with the red (updated) tag.

The School, as well as the Sci-Fi & Space Challenge have been slightly modified by changing the lost genres into their thematic counterparts.
For the time being, the themes Historical, Psychological, School, (Sci-Fi &) Space will still be considered as genres from us. We are aware of the situation being less than ideal in regards of consistency, but the challenges should still be doable this way.

You can still suggest new challenges! I have been looking through the thread and there are some very promising challenges already been suggested and we are currently looking further into them.

Also we are looking for a new Inspector to catch up with the latest turn-ins. Please get in touch with me if you are interested!

Updated the Shoujo Ai Challenge
- replaced the item:
"17. Read horror or game manga" with "17. Read horror or high stakes game or strategy game or video game manga"

Updated the Drama Challenge
- replaced the items:
"35. Read a drama and gender bender manga" with "35. Read a drama and crossdressing or magical sex shift manga"
"39. Read a drama and mystery or thriller manga" with "39. Read a drama and mystery or suspense manga"

Updated the 52-Weeks Challenge
- replaced the items:
"15. Read a Psychological, Thriller or Dementia manga" with "15. Read a Psychological, Suspense or Avant Garde manga"
"16. Read a Shounen Ai or Shoujo Ai manga" with "16. Read a Boys Love or Girls Love manga"
"17. Read a Sports, Games or Martial Arts manga" with "17. Read a Sports, High Stakes Game, Strategy Game, Video Game or Martial Arts manga"

Updated the Valentine's Day Challenge
- renamed the items:
"Read a manga featuring Shounen Ai/Yaoi or Bromance" with "Read a manga featuring Boys Love or Bromance"
"Read a manga featuring Shoujo Ai/Yuri or Womance" with "Read a manga featuring Girls Love or Womance"

Updated the Doujinshi Challenge
- Anything listed as Doujinshi counts.

Updated the Supernatural Challenge
- replaced the items: "Read a supernatural manga where the MC is the only one without powers" with "Read a supernatural manga where the MC gains powers after the start of the story"

Updated several #'s Challenges
- replaced the genre items with new counterparts. Check the individual challenges for what has been changed individually.

Updated the Light Novels Challenge
- replaced the item: "Read a doujinshi novel" with "Read a novel with 3 or more genres listed".

Big Fu**ing Giant Challenge:
- moved from year 1967 to 1966: Jun: Shoutarou no Fantasy World
- removed from the year 1967: Bara no Yashiki no Shoujo
- removed from the year 1953: Ribbon no Kishi. added for the year 1962: Ribbon no Kishi (1963).
- added for the year 1970: Spider-Man
- Year 2023 is now required, which makes the challenge total: ~174.

Naoki Urasawa Collection:
- Some oneshots (i.e. DAMiYAN!) merged into "Kushami: Urasawa Naoki Tanpenshuu".
- moved "Kushami: Urasawa Naoki Tanpenshuu" to bonus.
Jiro Taniguchi Collection:
Moved Kamigami no Itadaki to required.

Junji Ito Collection:
Removed Ningen Isu. Added Best of Best: Itou Junji Tanpenshuu to required.

MAL-Badges is gonna implement manga badges in the future, so we should hopefully have that sorted and MAL users can finally gain an insight into the manga DB stats, as it's barely touched upon.

since jhiday created and runs that site, I wonder if they have a script that could be modified to do the same for manga? it could be worth asking, at least. otherwise, making a script that just goes through the database and collects the data... I suppose it wouldn't be hard (if you have a clue on coding?) idk. wish you luck!

I need a full breakdown of info for the manga DB (like entry type and start year), but I can't find anything that covers all 63k+ titles. Perhaps a sister site to AWCc's site for the manga equivalent if possible?

Sorry for the very long wait on updates. We finally settled and stuck our heads together, to bring you a ton of updates, a new collection, as well as some clarifications. First and foremost, it's finally here - The Giftmas Collection, curated by our wonderful members. If you haven't had the chance or shyed away from being a part of it, now is your time to shine!
