A scan from the upcoming issue of WAaI! magazine reveals that Norio Tsukudani's 4-koma genderbending manga series Himegoto will be receiving an anime adaption.

Synopsis
Hime Arikawa is a high-school boy with a huge debt, and he is saved by the girls of his school's student council after being chased down by yakuza debt collectors. The student council agrees to pay off his debt if he'll join the student council and spend his high-school life cross-dressing. (Source: MU)

The manga series began publishing in November 2011 and has since had one volume released with the second volume being released April 2014.

In the end, anime is just another medium. Fiction has good works, and it has crap like Twilight. Film has 2001 and it has Transformers. Music has country. Though I see the argument that anime can be corralled in and improved upon because of how tight of a business it is, how narrow the focus of the demographics are, whereas those other forms of media produced world-wide, anyone can try to make grunge metal and B-movie, but only Japan can make anime.

Approaching this issue you meet some immediate roadblocks: they sell to the Japanese first and foremost because they're the ones willing to buy the product for the exorbitant prices charged there. Without being there and voting with yen, your vote might as well not count. Sure Japan tosses out a Badlands Rumble once in a very long while, but that's one instance out of thousands. We are essentially voiceless, and buying FUNi's Baccano DVDs (which i did 2 years ago) doesn't raise the volume because you're shouting through a tunnel layered in sound proof foam, full of middlemen and contracts. Japan does produce more "cerebral" anime, but they don't sell big, so of course they're not made in large numbers. But that's how music, book publishing, television, and Hollywood are too. Except they're so vast and wide that it's that you can't take it all in like you can with Japanimation.

You can be upset all you want, but either the otaku's wants will change on their own, or you'll have to accept it. I guess you could purchase 3000 Japanese BDs of a show you like, that'll let 'em know. Short of that, western money really does appear to be pittance on influence.

Yeah, anime is not gonna get popular in the US. And you know what? Thank fucking God. I don't want to see it changed solely because people like you are desperate to be seen as normal. I like anime BECAUSE it has things like Himegoto where no other medium does. How about you fuck off, you're probably one of those insufferable "ANIME WAS SO MUCH MANLIER AND BETTER IN THE 90'S GOD" fans, aren't you?

I'm not DESPERATE to be seen as normal I just am normal lol.

No other medium does what Himegoto does for a good reason, except for the Japanese who are a pretty weird bunch to begin with nobody else really cares for this kind of garbage.

Eh, I read some of the manga.

It was pretty boring considering the premise. It's just a typical harem: a bunch of girls passively bully a guy, who has little/no backbone and just takes it all. Oh, but he cross dresses, so he looks like a girl too.

The spin off manga was a little more interesting. That one features the MC's little brother (who also is a trap), and a bunch of other trap guys, as well as a reverse trap (girl who looks like a guy). It was a reverse harem that looked like a normal harem.

Even then though, a gimmick can only carry it so far. I ended up dropping that too.

I might watch this depending on what PVs look like. Probably not though.

You may call yourself a trap fan, but any "trap fan" who likes yuri isn't a true trap fan.

That... makes no sense at all. There's no such thing as a 'true' fan anyways, as long as you like something enough you're a fan of it. There's nothing more, nothing less.

The problem I have with this kind of series is that... the main character is not drawn to look like a guy cross dressing as a girl. The main character is drawn as a girl. That's it. They try to variate from the cute girls doing cute things but it's not going to be much different because of this fact.

Unless they employ a male as the voice of the main character. That might change things. But if that's not the case he won't even be a guy anymore. This just bothers me to no end. If Arikawa maybe identified as a girl I wouldn't mind but he doesn't so???

Eh it's a pet peeve of mine.

I agree for the most part. FukuJun would definitely solve this problem, like he did in Ixion Saga DT. Mariandale. <3 Kobayashi also did a pretty good job with Mariya despite being a female VA.

What the hell are you doing here, go back to your yuri threads, this is for trap fans only.

There is nothing on this thread that says it's for trap fans only. Idk why you're picking fights for no reason. This is a news thread on the news board and it's for all users, unless I am mistaken.

Oh joy another tranny anime.

It's this kind of nonsense is why people wouldn't ever admit to liking anime. "How come anime doesn't take off in the west?" It's because of crap like this.

Japanese don't care about west.Anime are meant only for Japanese,if you don't like you can just ignore it.

The way you say that makes it sound as though there are already a lot out there. Other than perhaps a few handfuls (if that) that are legitimately about crossdressing, I highly doubt your implication holds much ground, especially when a quick glance at your list would imply that you haven't seen even a single one of them.

Perhaps I'm missing something here: could you please list off a handful of the multitude of anime dealing with this topic for me (preferably none from this list of ~30 out of the thousands of anime ever created)? I'd honestly be grateful if you could, though I'm skeptical of your ability to do so.
It's this kind of nonsense is why people wouldn't ever admit to liking anime.
So because there are anime containing themes to which people would rather turn a blind eye because they're too bigoted to accept the fact that people might actually be different from them, people are afraid to admit to liking anime? Well, I suppose there may be some (perhaps yourself, since you brought up the example, though I'm by no means definitively saying you're one way or the other).

However, I'd wonder if the reason has more to do with the fact that they'd end up being associated with people like you who seem to think that their preferences are somehow better than everyone else's and, as such, go around spreading their attitude of nonacceptance to all those who dare hold a different viewpoint. Or at least, that was the reason I stopped associating with the anime folks at my previous university (though I've never been afraid to tell anyone I like anime since I'm not so self-conscious and scared of what people think of me that I have to lie and try hiding a perfectly normal hobby).
"How come anime doesn't take off in the west?" It's because of crap like this.
No, anime hasn't taken off in the West because there's always been an inherent bias against animation as a serious means of storytelling. No matter how "good" or "bad" an anime is, it's doomed to be simply branded as a cartoon and, as such, grouped together with general children's entertainment like Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, etc and consequently not appealing to the masses.

It has nothing to do with shows like this because most people don't even know that anime encompasses so many different themes. To the average person, anime is either Pokemon, various children's cartoons from Japan, or weird tentacle rape stuff. And of all the stupid things I've heard non-fans say, "anime about crossdressing are nasty and weird" has never been one of them.

If that's is the case, then they will never differentiate mediums in both cartoon and anime.

Obviously, why would I have said what I said if I watched them? I have seen plenty of anime that do have trannies in them and always have to shake my head over how stupid it is like Lovely Complex or Haganai.

So because there are anime containing themes to which people would rather turn a blind eye because they're too bigoted to accept the fact that people might actually be different from them, people are afraid to admit to liking anime?

People don't want to admit it because of the possible humilation you may face. Anime has a very poor reputation for all this nonsense hentai, most shows are over sexualised, usually involving children and perverted old men.

Nobody goes around telling people they like anime out of embarrassment and fear of people thinking your weird and childish. I've seen anime fans in videos and they always come across like that.

No teenage male is going to tell their friends they like Himegoto which is about a young cute boy dressing as a girl.

No, anime hasn't taken off in the West because there's always been an inherent bias against animation as a serious means of storytelling.

It's got nothing to do with that as I'm not talking about adults watching it or it rivaling books. Family Guy, Simpsons, Superhero cartoons have made it big in the west.

A handful have done the same in US and none of them have been over sexualised.

The Japanese are a very weird bunch with completely different tastes. While they take to this kind of tranny stuff the west rightfully looks down on it. People don't want to watch crap like that except a very small demographic.

Parents don't want their kids watching half the perverted stuff to come out of Japan.

I can hardly watch an anime today that is perverted humour free.

Eh, seems like simple moe slice of life trying to act like its something different with a few cheap laughs thrown in.

I'll probably check it out though.
