I really liked your review of Gintama where you stated how it's impossible to advise someone whether they'll like the show or not because it's so diverse in its content and complexity. It's one of the reasons I love the show so much, because it can't be neatly pigeon-holed. It was really hard for me to get into at first, because I generally don't like toilet humor or "wet" humor at all. And some of their humor, I still don't like, but I've come to appreciate a lot of it. I think Gintama is so popular precisely because it can appeal to so many different people on different levels, just like you stated. I, personally, am really into the backstory and the action but I really love the zingers and the frequent breaking of the fourth wall. It's not just one thing and that's why it has such a large fan base. I can skip past the bits I don't like and it doesn't bother me because like you said, when it nails what I do like, it really nails it. So, I felt your review was spot on. Great job.

Read your review for Gintama: Porori-hen and it was excellently written. I tend to fanboy a lot in my reviews sometimes and I wanted a fair review and that's exactly what your review gave me. My only concern is that in your review you had implied that Gintama switched from Sunrise to BNP. In reality Sunrise is a subsidiary of BNP and the particular studio handling Gintama, Studio 5 has merely been name-changed to Studio C of BNP, the core staff is the same. Anyway, I really liked this review of yours and hope to see your review for the final arc of Gintama. :)

Hey mate, well done on your review of Gintama, it was really well-written! I just thought I'd address something.

I'm not sure if you're aware and I just didn't pick up on it, but, following the split of Sunrise, a lot of the staff that work on Gintama are the same, as its studio was simply moved by Bandai Namco to become a part of Bandai Namco Pictures. Sure, staff members have come and gone, but the core staff have remained the same.

The whole 'BNP ruined Gintama' argument (not that severe in your case, I know, just hyperbolising) isn't really a fair one to make, so I just thought I'd clear up that misconception. Here's a list of the different Sunrise studios, showing how Gintama's hasn't changed per-se, but rather has undergone a name change.

Madao and the Photos, it's the Prologue to Episodes 294 and 295(the Afro arc), the one shot also has Okita and Katsura in it

I do have my problems with how they handled Porori though, like they could have easily adapted the Final One Shot Chapter...but they didn't(unless they are saving this for a OVA...or for a extra at the end of a SS arc episode...but I doubt it)

There was some small parts of filler(the Shinseguemi part in Episode 336, the start of Episode 329, the singing with Otsu in Episode 339, the actual video game studio getting blown up and Rumble being shit on in Episode 340)

And I brought this up, because the 2011 and 2006 animes were still less on content compared to the 2015 anime(where there was a 2 year break so there was a cour extra compared to the 2011 anime...which had less content because it was only a 1 year break)

as for a "I think there can be a alternative", I don't think it would have worked out considering you would need a 12 Episode cour(because that's what TV Tokyo offers) for SA arc(even though it's a arc that only needs 8-10 Episodes), but if you tried to fit in SA and FS arc in then you would need 24-26 Episodes(2 cour) and that would still drag things on with trying to make like SA 11 Episodes and FS 13 Episodes when it doesn't need that since those arcs are short (and remember this is not a guarantee that they can even get these Episode considering they don't buy them...the Production Committee's do, it's the same reason that Kekkai Sensen was such a bitch to get that 1 hour special...that they had to wait 4 month before they could air it because all the Timeslots were taken, or Saekano Season 2 had to be delayed by a year because Noitama had it's timeslots shrinked)

Some things to clear up, Time slots for the 2015 Gintama is the reason why they had to adapt SA and FS and skip the comedy episodes, I bet Sunrise/BNP didn't even plan Porori till like Spring 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3c_8fjYLBc (why do you think we got a PV for Silver Soul before Porori was even a thing?)

Look at the timeslots for TV Tokyo...notice how the limit is either 1cour, 2 cour, 4 cour, or long running only? As for the added scenes compared to the 2006...of course because Porori has a timeslot to fill with it being a 1 cour anime...while 2006 had to drag a lot of things on or add in filler so it can go on for a long time since the Production Committee got them that timselot (because Production Committees choose the amount of episodes for the most part, Not the studios https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2017/05/02/what-is-an-animes-production-committee/ )

BNP is Sunrise, most of the staff is the same(hell ... Youhei Sasaki who key animated the Finale of Gintoki vs Hosen is still in the staff https://www.sakugabooru.com/post?page=2&tags=youhei_sasaki to bad that we lost Tadashi Oppata idk if he retired/left/passed away from Gintama/anime in general https://www.sakugabooru.com/post?tags=tadashi_oppata) and the director of Episodes 1-105 is the sound director now, and the new director from the 2015 anime has been working on the anime since Episode 25(infamous Hotpot episode)

Lol thank you for your Gintama reviews of the recent two seasons!! On point and you brought up a really thought-provoking remark on how you "wonder when it became natural for Gintama to have a score of 9 or above" It's nice to see that people don't just give the seasons instant 10/10's just because it's Gintama.
(Can I expect you to write a review on Gintama's final arc too?!)
