Rumiko Takahashi, The Manga Queen, is a Mangaka born in 1957 that in 1978 started her career in the pages of Weekly Shounen Sunday, and it's been a constant succes from then. Since there has been too much series from then people tends to don't know what to watch first, and how to watch it.
So i'm here to help you, when you finish reding this guide you'll have the entire data you need to know what to do.

My personal recommendation, start watching Maison Ikkoku, it's her best work. The best way to get to know an author is to start with their best work.
Urusei Yatsura
TV, 1981, 195 eps Me:- Author:8
It was her first work and she already had gotten an anime adaptation. Maybe you don't believe it, but this is an iconical anime in Japan. It consists of standalone comical stories.
Not her best series, i wouldn't say this is for mainstream viewers. It has fans, but most of them are already used to her humour.
Urusei Yatsura: Haru da, Tobidase!
Special, 1982, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
This is a special double-length episode broadcasted after episode 21. It's also called episode 21.5.
Urusei Yatsura Movie 1: Only You
Movie, 1983, 1 ep Me:- Author:9
You know when an anime becomes famous it gets original movies, this used to happen a lot in the 80's.
Urusei Yatsura has 6 movies, half of the are good, and the other half is... Ugh.
This first movie is one of the good ones, Rumiko likes it a lot you know?.
This was also the first big film directed by legendary Mamoru Oshii, who was already director of the TV series.
Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer
Movie, 1984, 1 ep Me:- Author:10
What happens when Mamoru Oshii gets creative freedom?
He makes a masterpiece from an 80's rom-com.
However, unlike the first movie, Rumiko really hated this one because it is too Oshii.
Urusei Yatsura Movie 3: Remember My Love
Movie, 1985, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
Now the bad ones, Oshii is not involved anymore and you can see it from the start. I would like to say something, but i don't remember anything, i think that it also speaks a lot of this movie.
Urusei Yatsura Movie 4: Lum The Forever
Movie, 1986, 1 ep Me:- Author:8
Another bad movie, made by the same staff of the previous one. There is only one thing i remember about this movie, i didn't undestand it.
It's obvious that they treated to recreate what Oshii did, and they couldn't.
Urusei Yatsura OVA
OVA, 1985, 11 eps Me:- Author:8
After two summary episodes, this OVA adapted stories from the manga that the original show couldn't because of it's cancellation.
Urusei Yatsura Movie 5: Kanketsu-hen
Movie, 1988, 1 ep Me:- Author:8
2 Years afther the anime ending and 3 OVAs, UY came back to see it's real ending in a movie adapted from the last arc of the manga.
Urusei Yatsura Movie 6: Itsudatte My Darling
Movie, 1991, 1 ep Me:- Author:3
But before the definitive ending of the franchise in that years came this, the last bad movie to celebrate the 10th aniversary.
Fire Tripper
OVA, 1985, 1 ep Me:- Author:6
Rumiko also likes to write standalone One-Shots, and a few of them were adapted into OVA format in the 80's.
This is the first one, a story of love, time travels, ancient Japan, and... incest.
Hope you enjoy it.
The Supergal
OVA, 1986, 1 ep Me:- Author:6
Fortunately this second OVA is more like Rumiko's usual style.
This time we have a simple story about a girl trying to get her debts paid by a rich man she is chasing after.
Warau Hyouteki
OVA, 1987, 1 ep Me:- Author:6
Surely you don't know, but Rumiko likes a lot horror stories.
Here you can see one made by her, is about a phantom girl chasing after her beloved and trying to get him only for her.
1 Pound no Fukuin
OVA, 1988, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
Ok this is not a standalone series, but i'll put this OVA along with the others.
One Pound Gospel is minor manga series by Rumiko that revolves around an inept boxer unable to maintain his diet, but he tries because he is helped by a nun he has a crush in. So romcom mixed with spokon.
The OVA adapts manga chapter 1-5.
Ningyo no Mori
OVA, 1991, 1 ep Me:- Author:6
As 1 Pound Gospel, Mermaid Saga is a minor manga by Rumiko. This one is horror series that consists of standalone stories, all of them starred by the same pair of main characters.
Mermaid's Forest is the 3rd story of Volume 1.
Ningyo no Kizu
OVA, 1993, 1 ep Me:- Author:-
Mermaid's Scar is the 3rd Story of Volume 2, and the 6th overall.
Maison Ikkoku
TV, 1986, 96 eps Me:- Author:10
Second major work, the best overall. Animation, music, acting, the best couple, everything is just perfect.
It has only 1 flaw: Censorship. Some of the topics in the series were too much taboo to be seen in TV in that times.
Maison Ikkoku: Kanketsu-hen
Movie, 1988, 1 ep Me:- Author:9
This movie came out along with UY Movie 5. It is an original story that takes place between episodes 95 and 96.
Maison Ikkoku: Bangai-hen - Ikkokujima Nanpa Shimatsuki
OVA, 1991, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
The classic beach episode. In the manga it was an extra story published outside the main release, and in the anime it is an OVA released years after the anime ending.
Ranma ½
TV, 1989, 161 eps Me:- Author:8
Third major work. As UY it consists of comical satandalone stories.
Ranma ½ is strange, it is the basis for the Harem genre, but at the same time it feels like a parody. And a parody of nekketsu shounen too.
Ranma ½: Chuugoku Nekonron Daikessen! Okite Yaburi no Gekitou-hen!!
Movie, 1991, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
Again a popular anime getting an original movie, this came out along with UY Movie 6.
Good Movie.
Ranma ½: Kessen Tougenkyou! Hanayome wo Torimodose!
Movie, 1992, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
The same i said before, original story and good movie.
Actually, it is a Rehash of the previous movie.
Ranma ½ OVA
OVA, 1993, 6 eps Me:- Author:7
After the anime ended in 1992 came this OVA. Half of the episodes adapts random stories from the manga, the other half are original stories.
Ranma ½: Chou Musabetsu Kessen! Ranma Team vs. Densetsu no Houou
Movie, 1994, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
The last entry released in cinemas was a short movie that adapts a story.
Ranma ½: Yomigaeru Kioku
OVA, 1994, 2 eps Me:- Author:7
Reawakening Memories is one of the few important major stories in Ranma ½, so it was adapted in two episodes.
Ranma ½ Super
OVA, 1995, 3 eps Me:- Author:7
The last batch of OVAs adapted from random stories.
InuYasha
TV, 2000, 167 eps Me:- Author:10
Fourth major work, the most known. Great romance, fantasy, the best villain, good music, it is just a bit of what makes Inuyasha so beloved.
InuYasha: Kanketsu-hen
TV, 2009, 26 eps Me:- Author:10
Unfortunately the original series was cancelled, but five years after the ending it returned with a last season adapting the last chapters. The writers had to rewrite so much content they couldn't skip nor adapt either, but it was good anyway. Best OP btw.
InuYasha Movie 1: Toki wo Koeru Omoi
Movie, 2001, 1 ep Me:- Author:6
More original movies. This is the Black Sheep of Inuyasha Movies, none of them are masterpieces, but this is the worst by far. It's really bad.
InuYasha Movie 2: Kagami no Naka no Mugenjou
Movie, 2002, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
Now let's talk about a good movie. In this story our characters finally got to defeat the villain and resumes their lives, so his servants starts a plan to revie him with the help of evil Princes Kaguya.
Later in the main series there was a filler arc that features a character introduced here.
InuYasha Movie 3: Tenka Hadou no Ken
Movie, 2003, 1 ep Me:- Author:8
And now the best one, we saw Inuyasha team-up with his brother, and we finally met their father. It's pure fanservice and we love it because of that.
InuYasha Movie 4: Guren no Houraijima
Movie, 2004, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
The last movie, released after the ending of the original series. It is good.
Takahashi Rumiko Gekijou
TV, 2003, 13 eps Me:- Author:8
Years after the 80's OVAs came this little series adapting more One-Shots.
Takahashi Rumiko Gekijou Ningyo no Mori
TV, 2003, 11 eps Me:- Author:8
Technically this is part of the previous series. After they ended with the One-Shots they made a new adaptation of Mermaid Saga, covering almost all stories.
Takahashi Rumiko Gekijou Ningyo no Mori Specials
Special, 2004, 2 eps Me:- Author:8
These two last episodes were not aired on TV because of its violence. They were finally released in the last DVD of the series.
It's a Rumic World: 50th Anniversary Weekly★Shonen Sunday
Special, 2008, 1 ep Me:- Author:8
In 2008 Weekly Shounen Sunday celebrated its 50th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Rumiko's career with a batch of OVAs and this little crossover.
If you are already a Rumiko fan at this point, then there is no way you don't love this.
InuYasha: Kuroi Tessaiga
Special, 2008, 1 ep Me:- Author:8
This is the weakest of these releases, not bad but it's not too much. A simple storie adapted from the manga selected by the fan service.
Nowadays it has been trimmed down and used as episode 15 of The Final Act.
Urusei Yatsura: The Shougaibutsu Suieitaikai
Special, 2008, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
A new Urusei Yatsura animation 17 years after that horrible 6th movie. Fortunately it still has the same feeling of the original series.
A previously unadapted story that is a pool episode, why not?.
Ranma ½: Akumu! Shunmin Kou
OVA, 2008, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
As the previous OVAs this adapts a random story, but this time is not that simple.
They took the basic plot and expanded it to make sure all the characters get an appearance. A total homage to everything Ranma is.
Kyoukai no Rinne
TV, 2015, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
After 13 years publishing Inuyasha, Rumiko decided to return to the UY and Ranma format of comical satandalone stories. After 6 years of publication it finally received an adapatation.
Kyoukai no Rinne 2nd Season
TV, 2016, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
This second season was announced at the end of the first one, and at the end of this one the 3rd season was announced, so they were probably conceived together.
Kyoukai no Rinne 3rd Season
TV, 2017, 25 eps Me:- Author:8
What a shame this was the last season, because some months later the manga ended publishing, one last season would have been enough to adapt everything
Urusei Yatsura (2022)
TV, 2022, 23 eps Me:- Author:8
On December 31, 2021 a brand new Urusei Yatsura anime was announced to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan, Rumiko Takahashi's publisher.
Beacuse of the amount of episode this remake adapts the stories the studio thought most important.
Urusei Yatsura (2022) 2nd Season
TV, 2024, 23 eps Me:- Author:8
After a 9 months break we finally got to see the ending. The most importan stories are here.
Ranma ½ (2024)
TV, 2024, ? eps Me:- Author:8
When nobody expected it, Ranma returned with a new version more accurate to the manga.
