Chris Smith: When we first went out to Robert Downey Jr.’s house in the Hamptons, he said that we couldn’t bring a crew. Which I only found out two days beforehand.

I had read the book maybe a year before the script was sent to me and I just loved it. A book hadn’t suspended my disbelief in that way, and I’m always reading. I love to read.

Barry Jenkins: When you grow up in a certain kind of place, you contextualize it. So to me, Miami is this very beautiful place.

Cobbled together by twisted metal and foam and propelled by an old Soviet car engine, their vessel is the only thing that stands between them and the open sea. Esta Niña Linda is a short film about survival, and the story of a brother and sister’s relationship as they trek 90 miles in search of the U.S.
