SAN ANTONIO - Before the XFL filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it was calling other cities to gauge interest on possible relocation of up to three of its teams.

One of those cities was San Antonio .

Two sources told us San Antonio had exploratory conversations with the XFL about the league possibly moving one of its existing teams to the Alamo City.

But then, the XFL suspended operations just a few days later.

While many believe this really is the end of the XFL, why would CEO Vince McMahon file Chapter 11 instead of Chapter 7 bankruptcy papers? Chapter 11 is a reorganization bankruptcy and Chapter 7 is liquidation. Chapter 11 allows you to negotiate with your creditors to modify the terms of your debt without having to sell your assets.

Although McMahon could still sell the league during this process.

The league likely will stay out, even through next year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But until Vince McMahon comes out and publicly says 'we're done' there's always going to be speculation on the future of the league.

Which, as of five days ago, was trying to see if it would be a fit here in San Antonio.
