(UPDATED) The Mets today signed veteran infielder Angel Berroa and assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo. Berroa, the 2003 AL Rookie of the Year, had cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Yankees on June 24 to make room on their roster for Cody Ransom. Berroa hit just .136 with one double and one RBI in 21 games with the Bombers this season. The Mets also assigned Nick Evans to Buffalo this afternoon to create roster space for Jeff Francoeur.
