House hearing on Garland descends into chaos involving AOC, MTG & Crockett: ‘Are your feelings hurt? Aww’

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene traded barbs with Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett during a train wreck of a House Oversight Committee hearing Thursday night in which the lawmakers took turns body-shaming each other.

The hearing on whether to move forward with a contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland spiraled out of control after Greene (R-Ga.) brought up the daughter of the Manhattan judge presiding over former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial and then commented on the physical appearance of Crockett (D-Texas).

“I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge [Juan] Merchan’s daughter,” Greene asked.

Crockett demanded that Greene explain “what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” and asked the Republican firebrand, “Do you know what we’re here for?”

“I think you know what you’re here for,” Greene shot back. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

Chaos erupted in the chamber over the remark.

“That’s beneath even you, Ms. Greene!” Democratic ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) interjected, as the chairman of the panel, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), repeatedly slammed his gavel and called for order.

“That is absolutely unacceptable!” Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) shouted at Greene as she demanded that her comments be stricken from the record.

“How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person!” the “Squad” lawmaker added.

Greene then mocked Ocasio-Cortez’s anger.

“Are your feelings hurt? Aww,” she said.

“Oh! Girl, baby, girl!” Ocasio-Cortez seethed. “Don’t even play!”

“Oh, really? Baby girl? I don’t think so,” Greene said.

The Georgia Republican later agreed to strike her words but refused to apologize to Crockett.

“I am not apologizing,” Greene said before challenging Ocasio-Cortez to a debate.

“Why don’t you debate me!” she demanded.

“I think it’s pretty self-evident!” Ocasio-Cortez fired back.

“Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene said in another barb, resulting in groans from the chamber and renewed requests to strike her words.

When things appeared to be settling down, Crockett took the mic and fired back at Greene, in a question to Comer about what constitutes a personal attack.

“I’m just curious. To better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleached blond, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?” Crockett asked.

“A what now?” a confused Comer responded.

“I have no idea what you just said,” the exasperated-looking chairman then said.

Crockett’s shot at Greene appeared to amuse Raskin, whose eyes widened as he looked around the room and tried to hide his smile.

“Calm down,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) told Crockett, as the Texas Democrat shouted over other screaming lawmakers, demanding clarification on her point of order.

“No! Don’t tell me to calm down because y’all talk noise and then you can’t take it!” Crockett shouted.

“Because if I come and talk s–t about her, y’all gonna have a problem!” she continued.

Shortly after the contentious back-and-forth, the panel voted along party lines to send the contempt of Congress resolution against Garland to the full House of Representatives, over his failure to comply with a subpoena for audio recording of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur during the federal investigation into his handling of classified documents.
