Taxonomy
Teraterpeton hrynewichorum was named by Sues (2003). Its type specimen is NSM 999GF041, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is sea cliff below Burntcoat Head Community Park, which is in a Carnian fluvial sandstone in the Wolfville Formation of Canada. It is the type species of Teraterpeton.

H.-D. Sues 2003Premaxillary rostrum and mandibular symphysis long, narrow and edentulous. Maxillary and dentary tooth rows terminating posteriorly well below orbit. Maxillary tooth row inset and overhung labially by prominent ridge. Palatine with tooth row extending lingual and parallel to maxillary tooth row. More posterior tooth crowns labiolingually expanded, thickly enamelled, and with bulbous bases. Maxillary and palatine teeth with single tall cusp and basined anterior (mesial) “heel”; dentary teeth with single tall cusp and basined posterior (distal) “heel.” Tooth implantation ankylothecodont. Configuration of temporal region euryapsid, with deep bony bar below supratemporal fenestra. External narial fenestra situated far posteriorly behind premaxillary rostrum, more than 1.5 times as long as orbit. Antorbital portion of skull elongate but narrow transversely. Margin of orbit notched anterodorsally and with anterolateral flange formed by prefrontal and lacrimal. Articular facet of jaw joint divided by median longitudinal ridge and without anterior and posterior transverse bony ridges. Ungual phalanges gently curved and blade-like.
