The American Camp Association, New England to Honor Singer, Songwriter and Camp Advocate Lisa Loeb in November

Event to Raise Money for the American Camp Association, New England's Campership Fund Helping to Send Children-In-Need to Camp

The American Camp Association, New England (ACA New England) is ramping up for its 5th Annual Camp Champions Celebration honoring singer, songwriter Lisa Loeb on Friday, November 13th at the State Street Pavilion at Fenway Park. The evening, hosted by Emmy award-winning arts and entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik, celebrates the true spirit of camp, and all net proceeds will help to bring the summer camp experience to the area’s children-in-need through ACA New England’s Campership Fund.

More than 200 children age 6-16 had the chance to attend day and overnight camps in all six New England states as a result of last year’s Camp Champions Celebration. These camperships were a result of fundraising efforts from the 2014 Camp Champions Celebration, which honored Camp Philanthropist Anna Gould, founder of Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.

ACA New England will present Lisa Loeb with the 2015 Camp Champions Award in recognition and appreciation of her efforts in support of the life-changing gift of camp.

The Grammy®-nominated singer/songwriter (platinum-selling Number 1 hit song “Stay (I Missed You)“) founded Camp Lisa, a nonprofit organization that helps children attend summer camp and co-wrote a new musical “Camp Kappawanna,” which debuted at New York City’s Atlantic Theater Company in April 2015. “Lisa Loeb’s music and non-profit work have helped to build awareness of the importance of a camp experience in the life of every child,” said Bette Bussel, Executive Director of ACA New England. “Lisa truly defines a “Camp Champion.” She will be recognized for this work and for her commitment to spreading the message of the importance of summer camp and the life changing effect it can have on a young person. And, she will be recognized for her philanthropy, for financing camperships through her foundation.”

“It is such an honor to be chosen as the 2015 Camp Champion by the American Camp Association, New England. Summer Camp taught me to try new activities, explore, make friends, and learn how to be a leader. Kids can learn a lot about themselves, have fun, become a member of the community and challenge themselves by trying something they’ve never done before. It’s an amazing experience that resonates through your entire life,” said Lisa Loeb, singer/camp advocate, and this year’s Camp Champions Honoree.
