Chōfu (jap.
W okresie Edo (1603–1868) miasto pełniło funkcję shukuby na trasie Kōshū-kaidō. W latach 20. XX wieku, po wybudowaniu linii kolejowej łączącej Chōfu z Tokio, rozpoczął się proces szybkiej industrializacji[5].
