He marries Marion Moore, an adventuress who leaves him after her interest wanes. Bill is driven to drink and he is blamed for a killing committed by his law partner. Sentenced to a long prison term, Bill escapes to Canada with his cellmate Jack and they become wealthy in the trapping business. One day they rescue Nita, a girl who is the sole survivor of a boating accident, and take her in. Jack and Nita fall in love and are eventually married, and Bill decides to return home to his mother. As he approaches his home, he is accosted by the town sheriff, who long ago pledged eternal gratitude to Bill.
