She is hired by a family under an assumed name as a maid. The young son is very much taken with her, and his aristocratic mother is shocked. The mother incurs gambling debts, and to cover her losses determines to rob her husband. In the night she sneaks into the library and begins to open the safe. Edna hears a noise and gun in hand enters the dark library. She commands hands up, and is horrified to find the wife. She hears the son's voice and quickly makes up her mind. She hands the gun to the mother, and when they come in she appears as the thief. She is arrested and her trial set for the next day. She appears at the station in her real self and pleads her case. She tells the magistrate that she wished the actual sensation of being arrested for her new play. The mother presses her hand and the son seems very cheerful. Written by
