When George becomes engaged to a charming young lady and incurs his father's wrath, Gaspard suffers deeper pain than his master. Overhearing a conversation in which the father angrily threatens to disinherit his son, the old servitor later generously offers to lend his savings of a lifetime to the unhappy youth. With this assistance, George decides to take the step, and sends an invitation to his father to be present at the wedding. The parent is very indignant and is about to send a curt refusal, when Gaspard enters the room and insists upon his presence at the ceremony. The arguments of the old servant are successful and the two arrive just in time for the father to extend his blessing. They then gather in a happy company, and old Gaspard is the merriest of them all. Written by
