He spends his days in his studio, staring at a blank canvas, unable to paint anything. Obsessed with death, he tries to kill himself, without success. Believing that death is the true creative motive, Álvaro fantasizes about killing someone, starting with his beautiful young assistant and living model. Even though he is unable to kill, Álvaro keeps his revolver stored in his jacket pocket. As reality becomes confused with morbid delusions, Álvaro ends up committing a banal and almost accidental crime, killing a stranger who was arguing with his wife.
