Our Journey begins on the parched hillsides of Palermo during the Magna Graecia period. We visit the numerous Greek colonial ruins of Greater Greece, dating from the 8th century B.C. We examine the Byzantine art and architecture of Ravenna of the shores of the Po River. Our tour swings north to the, "queen of the Adriatic", Venice, before moving south to Florence and the birth of the Renaisssance along the Arno river. We dwell on the Duomo; and the churches of San Miniato, Santa Croce, Maria Novella with brief stops at the Pitti Palace and Bargello museums. Our itinerary also includes stops at Sienna Pisa, Milan and Pompeii before arriving in Rome, the "eternal city". Gazing upon the Roman Forum and Colosseum, our thoughts are consumed by our arrival in St. Peters Square. Our last words can only be ones of silence and humility as we stand beneath the Sistine Chapel ceiling vault created by Michelangelo. This spectacular canopy of spiritual art brings to a close our stimulating Impressions of Italy. Written by
