Annual rate of CMRPI in NCR eased to 1.0 percent in May 2024

The annual rate of CMRPI in NCR continued to increase at a slower rate of 1.0 percent in May 2024 from 1.2 percent in April 2024. In May 2023, the annual increment of CMRPI was recorded at 2.6 percent. (Figure 1, and Tables A, 2, and 4)

The primary contributor to the downtrend of CMRPI in NCR was the slower annual increase observed in the heavily-weighted tinsmithry materials index at 2.2 percent during the month from 2.6 percent in April 2024. This was followed by the slower annual increment in painting materials and related compounds index, which exhibited 1.6 percent year-on-year growth in May 2024 from 2.2 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, higher annual increase was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.4 percent during the month from 0.3 percent in April 2024.

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their previous month’s annual rate:

a. Electrical materials, 0.9 percent;
b. Plumbing materials, 0.3 percent; and
c. Miscellaneous construction materials, 0.8 percent.

The index of masonry materials also retained its previous month’s annual drop of 0.3 percent. (Table 2)
