Nick Cannon has announced he will be taking an indefinite leave from his radio shows.
Cannon released a statement on Facebook stating, “Morning radio family. I have decided to take some time away from my radio show so I can commit myself to deeper, more thorough reflection and education. I will use this time to establish an action plan towards real, impactful change and advocacy aimed at bringing people together.
I continue to express my gratitude to the Rabbis, community leaders and institutions who have reached out to me to help enlighten me. Their input and friendship will help me as I further commit myself to more profound learning and towards strengthening the bond between the Black and Jewish cultures every day going forward.”
During the hiatus, Skyview Networks will be offering affiliates a substitute host to be named.
Skyview began syndicated Cannon’s “Power 106” KPWR Los Angeles morning show for distribution on Rhythmic CHRs in January as well as a weekend countdown show. Among affiliates were Alpha Media’s “We 102.9” Portland where it aired from 4-8pm and “B96.5” WGZB Louisville where it was running in mornings.
Cannon apologized last night for his anti-semitic comments that had led to him being fired from VH1’s “Wild ‘N Out”. Following the apology, Fox announced Cannon will continue to host “The Masked Singer”.
Skyview released the following statement:
Nick Cannon has begun a period of self-reflection to address the pain he caused, and while we recognize his apology, this time is needed to establish an action plan towards real change and advocacy. During this period, production of the Nick Cannon Radio show will cease. Skyview Networks values all communities and faiths and we expect all programs and personalities we syndicate to adhere to these principles.
