EMU Car Shed Moula-Ali

EMU CAR SHED / MLY

1.Brief History:

EMU Car Shed, Moula-Ali was established in 2003 and is located at a distance of about 8 Km from Secunderabad Railway Station.

The Car Shed was constructed to take care of maintenance requirements of 20 rakes of Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) Coaches.

The shed also comprises of a POH  shed to undertake heavy repair/POH schedules of MMTS rakes.

Heavy Repair Shed, Moula-Ali

The EMU Car Shed , Moula-Ali falls under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway is functioning with 158 staff headed by a Sr Divisional Electrical Engineer/ECS/MLY. 

MMTS first phase covering a distance of 43 km - SC-HYB-LPI (28 km) and SC-FM(15 km) over the existing railway network comprising of 26 MMTS stations (16 in SC Division & 10 in HYB Division) was completed at a cost of Rs. 178 crore.

First lot 20 EMUs comprising of 20 Motor Coaches and 40 Trailer Coaches were received during 2003 and first stream of MMTS operations connecting SC-HYB-LPI (28 Kms) was started on August 9, 2003 with 48 services per day duly forming 9 rakes of all 6 Car. MMTS services extended to run on the second stream of SC-FM (15 Kms), increasing the services to 74 per day w.e.f February 14, 2004.

From 1st Feb 2008, with increase in patronage, 2 of the rakes were augmented to 9-car rakes and services increased to 89 per day.

From 29th of September, 2010, 2 Matribhoomi MMTS services were started exclusively for ladies between FM & LPI.

Second lot of 12 EMUs comprising of 12 Motor Coaches and 24 Trailer Coaches received between January-April, 2011 from ICF. All these EMUs are commissioned at EMU Car Shed, MLY.

From 1st July, 2011 onwards all the 6-car rakes were augmented and 10 rakes of 9-car formation are formed. The no. of services increased to 121 per day.

During Feb – March 2014 one  New 8- Car MEMU rake was received from RCF, Kapurthala and this rake is being utilised for the MEMU service between Tandur – Secunderabad – Tandur  from 24th March 2014. Another MEMU service is  running between Falaknuma - Bhongir /Jangoan - Falaknuma

Under MMTS Phase II project , the MMTS services will be extended upto Umdanagar, Bolarum/Medchal and upto Ghatkesar.

4.Holding & Daily Position of EMU rakes:

01 unit transferred from MCS/RJY in April ‘2014.

One rake (2 units) is transferred from MCS/RJY w.e.f 15th Feb ’2015.

5.Activities of EMU Car Shed, Moula-Ali :

a)Schedule inspection i.e. Trip (10 days), IA (45 days) , IC (180 days) of EMU/MEMU rakes.

b)Un-schedule repairs and lifting attention of EMU/MEMU coaches.

c) POH (18 months periodicity) of EMU Motor Coaches.

d)Complete overhauling and testing of Traction Motors, auxiliary motors and other electrical and pneumatic equipments.

The shed has undertaken the following vital safety/improvement modifications on EMU coaches:

1. Introduction of Speed sensing relay for emergency application of EP brakes whenever the reverser handle is brought to neutral while on RUN and the train comes to dead stop.

2. Field weakening arrangement provided for traction motors to improve the acceleration and overall running time of MMTS train services.
