Jacob Cats (10 November 1577 in Brouwershaven - 12 September 1660 in The Hague) was a Dutch poet, jurist and politician. He is most famous for his emblem books. His poems were told like nursery rhymes for many years.
Cats was pensionary of Middelburg and Dordrecht, and grand pensionary of Holland.
