Shitao (simplified Chinese: 石いし涛; traditional Chinese: 石いし濤, c. 1642 – 1707), born Zhu Ruoji (Chinese: 朱しゅ若わか極きょく), was a Chinese Buddhist monk [en], calligrapher, painter and theoretician [en] of the early Qing dynasty.[1][2] Alongside Bada Shanren [en], he was one of China's most famous Individualist [en] painters of the early Qing dynsasty.[2]
