Banterra Center, home of SIU men's and women's basketball, is one of the best arenas in college basketball. Originally built from 1962-64, the arena was known as SIU Arena from 1964-2019, when SIU partnered with Banterra Bank, the region's largest locally owned bank, for a 10-year naming-rights agreement on May 16, 2019.

This historic arena, which has hosted some of the greatest college basketball players of all-time, including SIU alum Walt Frazier, was given a $30 million renovation in 2010 that makes it among the best facilities in the country.

One of the best home court environments in the nation, Banterra Center has been host to seven undefeated home court records for Saluki Men's Basketball: 1965-66, 1966-67, 1974-75, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05, and 2006-07. All-time, Saluki Men's Basketball has won nearly 75 percent of its home games since the arena opened in 1964, including a 33-game home court winning streak from 2004-06 that spanned nearly three full seasons.

Fans have seen the Salukis rise to the top of the college basketball world at Banterra Center, which has been host to 10 SIU men's basketball teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament, including Sweet Sixteen teams in 1977, 2002 and 2007. In 1967, led by one of basketball's all-time great players, Walt Frazier, SIU followed up a 12-0 home season by beating Duke, Rutgers, and Marquette en route to the NIT championship at Madison Square Garden.

On January 26, 2008, Banterra Center became the first Missouri Valley Conference arena to host ESPN's College Gameday, which started with a live morning broadcast in the arena and culminated later that evening with a thrilling win over arch-rival Creighton.

The Salukis have taken down 13 wins over high major opponents at Banterra Center, including Oklahoma State, Louisville, Michigan, and Indiana. Then-Indiana head coach Mike Davis remarked, "I thought we were playing the Lakers," after the Salukis took down the Hoosiers at Banterra Center in 2001.

In addition to college basketball, the arena has hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Elton John, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and many more. It has also hosted other events, including the WWE and the Harlem Globetrotters.
