Henry Austin moved from Muttock in Middleborough, Massachusetts to New York.

Henry Austin came to Texas at the urging of his cousin, Stephen F. Austin. In 1831 his application for land was approved by the Mexican government and he began a plantation, Bolivar, on the Brazos River. The plantation was never profitable, but Austin remained in Texas as a faithful supporter of his cousin and as a lawyer.
