j1tters is a song performed by Free Association. It is played on floors from 1F to 9F with the "Escort the turbine tower!" objective in Side Order.
Description
j1tters is mostly a disjointed piece of music. It begins with a few repeated phrases, before bringing in a backing of percussion and consistently repeated note on a synth. Additionally, there are beeps and other electronic sounds. Occasionally, the music is interrupted and a phrase much calmer, slower, and with an echo plays until it sounds as it glitches out, and goes back to the status quo. As the music progresses, a backing similar to that phrase appears in the main music. Near the end of the song, there is a series of fast arpeggios. Once they end, all backing is removed, similar to the beginning.
This song has an anxious feel to it, fitting with its name. It also has many beeps and other such sounds that seem less like music and more artificial.
Etymology
j1tters comes from the word "jitters" with the "i" replaced with the number "1". This is due to j1tters being the track for the "Escort the turbine tower!" objective in the first set of floors. The naming scheme of a word with one letter removed and replaced with the number 1, 2, or 3 is used all throughout the floor music for Side Order.
The word "jitters" means extreme nervousness and slight movements in that context, such as fidgeting. Additionally, it is used to mean slight, irregular movements in electronic signals and devices. The song and level supports either or both interpretations of the word.
