"Darn whippersnappers won't stay off my lawn!"

The curmudgeonly Coelagon (シーラゴン Shīragon) is a fount of tall tales and factful fables for the younger Seacons (so basically all the Seacons) due to his advanced age (between 80,000 and 110,000 years old). When he isn't napping (which is most of the time), Coelagon acts as adviser to the Space Pirates and his wisdom goes unquestioned... at least to his face.

In reality, a disproportionately high percentage of what he recollects inevitably winds up either exaggerated or blatantly untrue. Whether Coelagon's memory circuits are nearing the end of their shelf life or he just received the wrong information several centuries ago is yet to be determined, but the Seacons treat him with respect regardless.

Coelagon combines with his fellow Seacon Space Pirates to form God Neptune.

"I will get you, Mega Man!"

With the other Seacons, Coelagon arrived on Gaia in the pirate crew's photon sailer. After being roused from one of his naps, Coelagon explained to the others about the planet's Angolmois Energy that they could sell on the space market. When the Seacons went underwater to pump it out, Coelagon found it an opportune time for another nap. Their leader, Halfshell, eventually came into conflict with the planet's Maximals and Coelagon was called on to combine into God Neptune. A feint by the Maximals caused the collected Angolmois Energy within the pirate ship to explode and God Neptune was split into his components. The Space Pirate Seacons! The Seacons went to work on repairing their damaged ship, but Coelagon just found himself tired and hungry. When the investigating Dirge and Thrust flew overhead, the distrusting Seacons shot at them and tried to merge into God Neptune, but Scylla was missing. When the other Seacons went off to fight nearby Maximals, Coelagon just observed till called on to form God Neptune, but Scylla was again absent and the one-legged combiner took a tumble. They finally managed to fully form God Neptune and sent the Maximals retreating, but the love-struck Scylla wandered off yet again and the combiner was forced to disassemble. The Tentacular Scuba

When Megastorm and Halfshell formed a plot to split the Maximals up so that they could be taken care of in one-on-one fights, Coelagon faced off against Bighorn. To escape having to pay the Seacons, Megastorm engineered the baiting transmitters to explode, but became the victim of all of them. Coelagon didn't pick up much from what happened when the one nearby exploded and was back to sleep on the photon sailer when the plan failed. Megastorm's Reckoning When Galvatron insulted the Seacons and Halfshell in particular, Coelagon comforted his captain and agreed with Scylla's plan to use Bighorn's affection for the Seacon squid to lure out the Maximals. Once the plan was underway, Coelagon observed the other Seacons attack the Maximals out at sea and attacked Lio Convoy and Apache when they took care of Halfshell. When the Maximals regrouped, the Seacons surrounded them and combined into God Neptune. However, with some assistance from Bigmos and Tonbot, Lio Convoy was able to use his Lion Typhoon to blow away the giant. Showdown in the Sea

When Scylla went missing, Sea Phantom and Terrormander went off to look for her, while Coelagon stayed on the photon sailer with Halfshell. Later coming across a three-way battle between the Seacons, the Jointrons, and the Combatrons, God Neptune was formed to deal with Tripledacus. Lio Convoy's Maximals arrived and managed to force the titan into the sea. Face the Setting Sun Finally deciding to get off the planet, Halfshell was invited to talk to Lio Convoy about obtaining the needed energy to leave. Coelagon observed the proceedings, including the final agreement to have a duel. God Neptune showed up to fight against Lio Convoy and the battle raged till interference from Megastorm revealed a geyser of Angolmois Energy that forced God Neptune to break apart into his component parts. Taking and using the energy that Lio Convoy brought, the Seacons escaped Gaia's gravity. On their way out of the Solar System, the photon sailer came face-to-face with a void that pulled in the ship. The Final Battle At the center of the void was Galvatron's artificial planet Nemesis, and the Seacons were brainwashed to serve the Emperor of Destruction. The Artificial Planet Nemesis

Sailing through space, the Seacons came across the Jointrons, and both teams fused into their respective combined forms. Their battle was interrupted by a mysterious spaceship that squarely collided with God Neptune and broke him up into the individual Seacons, who were sent flying off. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!

When the Maximals were on their way to reach the rapidly approaching Nemesis, the Seacons served as its first line of defense and forced the Maximals to crash on a nearby asteroid. There, they fought the confused Maximals. When Lio Junior, Santon, and Skywarp combined to form Magnaboss, the Seacons did their own combination in response and the two combined warriors battled. God Neptune gained the upper hand, but, with the other Maximals' help, Magnaboss was able to strike God Neptune with an Angolmois Ball, which knocked out the Seacons. Coming to, they regained their senses and Halfshell explained that the Nemesis's evil influence had made them aggressive. The Seacons saw the Maximals off and Halfshell declared the asteroid their new spaceship. Revenge of the Space Pirates

It would soon be revealed that Coelagon stole lines from Gilbert Gottfried's roast of David Hasselhoff.

While the Seacons were stuck on Gaia thanks to being lost and their photon sailer running out of energy, Scylla fell in love with "Bighorn". Her gushing affection prompted Captain Halfshell to have the crew put on an elaborate wedding for the squid, with Coelagon officiating.

After much ado between the real Bighorn and Scuba, Galvatron's Predacons attacked the festivities and the Seacons combined into God Neptune to fight back. He was quickly felled by Predacon firepower, but Bighorn, Scylla, and Scuba were able to join forces and send the attackers fleeing. After Scylla gave her goodbyes to her suitors, the Seacons left the planet. Realize the Forbidden Love!

Coelagon was a Game champion turned Resistance officer and teller of many a relevant Game tale when it came to battle. "The piranha have not yet arrived… But I assure you, the koi are ravenous."
  • God Neptune (Multi-pack, 1998)
  • ID number: D-21
  • Release date: August ??, 1998
A redeco of the Generation 1 Seacon Skalor, Coelagon transforms into a robotic four-legged fish monster, with many features suggestive of a coelacanth. However, he lacks the rifles and stand-pieces of the original version of the mold. Since he uses the Scramble City-style of combination, he can form the arm or leg to any combined robot of similar construction, but his nominal place is as the left arm of God Neptune.
He was available only as part of the God Neptune gift set with his teammates Halfshell, Skyulle, Sea Phantom, and Terrormander, sold in the seventh wave of Takara's Beast Wars II toyline.
For unknown reasons, a great number of unboxed God Neptune sets—lacking all of their accessories, including combiner parts—ended up available on the secondary market. These went for considerably less than the "complete" releases, naturally.
This toy was later repurposed as Generation 1 Skalor in the Collectors' Club magazine comic arc Beast Wars Shattered Glass.

  • Godneptune [sic] (Multi-pack, 2020)
  • Hasbro ID number: TT-GS10
  • Release date: October 31, 2020
  • Accessories: Left & right blasters, tail-cannon, sword, combiner hand, combiner hand gap filler
Generations Selects Coelagon is a redeco of Gulf from the same line, who himself is an extensive retool of Power of the Primes Deluxe Class Terrorcon Blot (itself a Terrorcon Rippersnapper retool, who is also a... just kidding, that's the last/first one in that chain), transforming from a robotic coelacanth monster to a robot. This beast-mode tail becomes a hand-held cannon for robot mode.
He is able to form a limb for God Neptune or any Combiner Wars-style Combiner, though the instructions that come with the set only detail how to transform him into arm mode. His twin blasters and sword can combine with his teammates' accessories to form God Neptune's "Neptune Cannon" and "Neptune Sword" (respectively).
Coelagon can also assume "Targetmaster" mode like Gulf, but this is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging or instructions.
Coelagon was only available as part of the God Neptune giftset, a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive in Japan. The God Neptune set was also available via Hasbro Pulse and other online retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

Notes

  • Coelagon's name is perhaps a pun on both "sea" and "coelacanth", as a Japanese trading card romanizes his name as "Sealagon". Shī (シー) is used to transliterate "sea" and the "coe" in "coelacanth" so the wordplay is either intentional or the katakana usage confused the person who made the card.
  • Coelacanths are an ancient (and long-lived) species of fish, which is likely the inspiration to make the character elderly.
