The Powered Masters (パワードマスター Pawādo Masutā) are an elite squad of high-ranking Autobots, gifted with incredible size, strength, and skill. Together or separately, they're more than a match for any one of Violengiguar's Nine Great Demon Generals. Their titular Powered Engines give them the power to traverse the universe and create energy-producing colony worlds.

The Powered Masters are:

The three Powered Masters can combine to form Big Powered. Dai Atlas can also combine with his teammates individually, forming Sky Powered when combined with Sonic Bomber and Land Powered when combined with Roadfire.

There are also two lesser known Powered Masters:

  • Twin Twist and Topspin, twin space explorers who are seldom seen operating alongside the other three.

These two brothers can combine into Attack Powered. They also have the ability to individually combine with the other three, with Roadfire and Topspin forming Wing Powered while Dai Atlas and Twin Twist form Drill Powered.

All five Powered Masters together have the ability to form the fearsome Ultra Powered.

Legends comic

Dai Atlas, Roadfire, Sonic Bomber were originally built by Megatron on Cybertron as the Decepticon Poweredrons with unique Powered Engines that allowed them to traverse the universe and create energy-producing colony worlds. When they learned of Megatron's evil intentions, they stole the Decepticon fleet and evacuated civilians to Paradron. Upon their return to Cybertron, they renamed themselves as the Powered Masters and joined the Autobots. In this capacity, they informed Optimus Prime they detected energy on Earth that could help them overcome the Decepticons. Dai Atlas Chapter

To counter the Autobot Zone, Violengiguar ordered his Nine Great Demon Generals on a campaign to conquer planets and create a Decepticon Zone. The Decepticons attacked planet Feminia and destroyed it completely, with Victory Saber lost in the destruction. However, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber, the Powered Master space explorers, had arrived in time to rescue the badly wounded Autobot Supreme Commander. The Decepticons then shifted their focus to Earth, where they hoped to obtain a powerful energy source called the Zodiac. Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber intercepted them on Earth, defeated them, and regained the Zodiac. Impressed with Dai Atlas' courage and power, and too injured to lead any longer, Victory Saber inaugurated Dai Atlas as the new Supreme Commander of the Autobots. Transformers: Zone

Dai Atlas helped to complete the Zone Operation, leaving Victory Saber relieved he had passed the role of Supreme Commander on to him. Zone Part 4 Soon after, Evil Spirit General BlackZarak attacked Earth and took Landshaker and Sky Hyper hostage. Driven by the need to rescue their comrades, the Powered Masters defeated BlackZarak and rescued their friends. Zone Part 5

The Powered Masters then focused their attention on Super-God General Overlord and Dinosaur General Trypticon, whom they vowed to defeat in under eight seconds. True to their word, they beat them within the time limit. Zone Part 6

Violengiguar then created Metrotitan as a rival for Dai Atlas and unleashed him on the Lunar Zone Base on Earth's moon. Dai Atlas heard the SOS and rushed to aid Sonic Bomber in battle. Zone Part 8 Dai Atlas arrived and combined with Sonic Bomber into Sky Powered, but they were quickly frozen solid by Metrotitan's Freeze Beam Gun. All hope seemed lost until Roadfire, the third Powered Master, appeared and took Metrotitan out. Freed, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber happily welcomed Roadfire into the club. Zone Part 9

Violengiguar at last came out of the shadows and attacked the Earth in person. The Powered Masters attempted to stop him with their "Triple Powered Attack" but failed. Violengiguar escaped back to the Tenth Planet with the Zodiac and a Galaxy Rocket full of hostages. The Powered Masters then combined into Big Powered and gave chase. Zone Part 10

Arriving at the Tenth Planet, Violengiguar split into his three forms, Vion, Lenger and Iguarn, and attacked. The Powered Masters quickly destroyed them, but the battle was not over. Zone Part 11 Violengiguar returned as a horrible phoenix-thing and attacked. Upgraded with the power of the Zodiac, the Powered Masters combined into Big Powered yet again, but this time their strength was enhanced thirty-fold. They flew through Violengiguar and destroyed him with the "Powered Rainbow Attack". The Zodiac then reformed the desolate Tenth Planet into a lush utopia where humans and robots could live in harmony. Zone Part 12

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers

ZoneToy bigpowered giftset.jpg
The three Generation 1 Powered Masters were each available sold separately or in a combined "Big Powered" gift set.
All three figures incorporate some form of motorized gimmick. Dai Atlas features an electric motor, powered by two AA batterries, which drives his rubber treads, allowing him to roll forwards or backwards in his vehicle and robot modes. Sonic Bomber and Roadfire feature friction motors, which automate portions of their transformation to robot mode; Sonic Bomber's motor splits his noscone and raises his head into view, while Roadfire's rotates his legs into place. The two smaller Powered Masters also feature additional spring-loaded autotransformation gimmicks that reveal the launching ramps for their base modes.
The three figures' vehicle modes combine into Big Powered, who remains the use of Dai Atlas's motorized functions.

New recruits Topspin and Twin Twist, each sold separately, are direct redecoes of their Hasbro market Titans Return toys packed with Targetmasters Spoil and Peaceman respectively.

Merchandise

Transformers Gum

Part of the sixth wave of Kabaya's revived Transformers Gum Series, the individual releases of Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, and Roadfire are snap-together model kits reproducing all of their original modes. Roadfire includes the Z Powered Cutter weapon and a tiny non-transforming car mode Speeder which are intended for the concurrently released Dai Atlas kit. The three kits can combine to form Big Powered.
A "DX" combined release of Kabaya Dai Atlas, Roadfire and Sonic Bomber was also produced. They feature changes to plastic color compared to their initial separate releases, and foil stickers.
Like most other Kabaya model kits, the Powered Masters have no paint applications and rely on stickers for added details. The kits also includes a substance that could be charitably referred to as gum.

Notes

  • Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, and Roadfire are also known as "The Hero of the Earth" (大地だいち英雄えいゆう Daichi no Eiyū), "The Warrior of the Wind" (ふう戦士せんし "Kaze no Senshi"), and "The Brave of the Fire" (ほのお勇者ゆうしゃ Honō no Yūsha) respectively.
  • The addition of the Jumpstarters to the Powered Master subgroup some thirty years on becomes somewhat more explicable when one recalls the elaborate motorized action features of Topspin and Twin Twist's own Generation 1 toys.
