The film has been receiving a lot of positive reviews, and following Keerthy Suresh and Lokesh Kanagaraj, actor Venkat Prabhu took to social media to appreciate the film. He called out the film for its brilliant screenplay.

Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, 'Maharaja' was released in theaters on June 14, and the film's cast includes Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natty Natraj, and Munishkanth, among others. The film has earned more than Rs 11 crore in two days and is soon expected to gross Rs 25 crore at the box office.
The film is about a barber who yearns to take revenge against the looters who robbed his house. Playing the lead role, Vijay Sethupathi refers to his wealth as 'Lakshmi' and makes a cryptic complaint at the police referring to his work equipment, which further leads the police in doubt as to whether he means a person or an object. Anurag Kashyap plays the antagonist in the film.
