The Collector of Hyderabad district said on 'X' that a case is registered in Malakpet Police Station against BJP candidate Madhavi Latha, under different sections of the IPC and the Representation of the People Act.This follows an allegation that Latha checked the identity of a burqa-clad woman voters by asking them to show their faces.Meanwhile, Madhavi Latha, alleged that a polling booth in Riyasat Nagar was locked and that "rigging" was taking place.

Medak sees highest turnout with 72.51% while Hyderabad sees the lowest with 39.17%

Prominent actors from the Telugu film industry were out to vote on Monday for the elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, rains played spoilsport affecting voter turnout in some areas, while people queued up early at polling stations in states such as Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to escape the heat.Polling was held in 96 Lok Sabha constituencies across 10 states and Union Territories in the fourth of the seven-phase general elections. Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are held simultaneously.

Zahirabad had the highest turnout with 63.96% while Hyderabad had the lowest turnout 29.47%.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya and his family members cast their votes for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Hyderabad's Ramnagar on Monday.

After casting his vote, Dattatraya also urged people to vote in large numbers to strengthen democracy.

"I feel delighted to have cast my vote here. In a democracy, the right to vote is very important. Votes bring change...So, people should vote in large numbers and strengthen democracy...I urge all voters to vote in large numbers. The Constitution of India has given voting rights to everyone, whether they are rich or poor. "

In a post on X, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said, "Today, I have cast my vote for the Lok Sabha elections at Polling Booth No. 232, JV High School, Ramnagar, Hyderabad, along with family members. Urge every eligible voter to exercise his right to franchise and strengthen our democracy."

As the voting for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election is underway in 96 constituencies across nine states and one Union Territory, a voter turnout of 40.32 per cent was reported by 1 pm.

According to the data issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout of 51.87% while Jammu and Kashmir recorded the lowest voter turnout of 23.575%.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh recorded 48.52% , Andhra Pradesh recorded 40.26% , Bihar recorded 34.44% , Jharkhand recorded 43.8% , Odisha recorded 39.30%, Maharashtra recorded 30.85%, Telangana recorded 40.38 %, and Uttar Pradesh recorded 39.68% .

Voting for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 96 Parliamentary Constituencies across nine states and one Union Territory began on Monday at 7:00 am.

BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday claimed that regional parties would play a key role post the Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to reporters after voting at his native village Chintamadaka in Siddipet district in Telangana, he said according to the BJP's own rule, no leader in the party would take up any position after attaining the age of 75.

"Accordingly, Mr Modi has to step down. It is up to the BJP people to think," he told reporters.

"There is nothing like a bloc. Now, the regional parties will be the power in India," he said.

Polling was underway on Monday for the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana.

Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy alleged that the BJP is "attempting to polarise Mulsim votes" hours after its party candidate Madhavi Latha courted controversy during her visit to a polling booth.

Madhavi Latha was seen in a video clip checking the voter ID cards of Muslim women during her visit to a polling booth.

"I have not seen (the video). But BJP is simply trying to polarise Muslim votes to win Asaduddin Owaisi. All these issues are going to help Owaisi. It is not going to benefit anything BJP," CM Revanth Reddy told ANI while responding to the video.

"BJP's agenda is that to say that Asad has to elect. This is one type of polarisation," he alleged.

Replying to a query, CM Reddy said, "I have asked everyone to support the Congress party including BJP cadres also".

Madhavi Latha who is the BJP's candidate from Hyderabad courted controversy after she was seen in a video clip checking the voter ID cards during her visit to a polling booth.

In the video, the BJP candidate can be seen asking Muslim women inside the booth to remove the Burkha and identify themselves along with checking their voter identity cards.

Speaking about the video, the BJP leader told that she had only requested the women to verify their identity and there was nothing wrong with this.

"I am a candidate. As per law candidate has the right to check the ID cards without the facemasks. I am not a man, I am a woman and with a lot of humbleness, I have only requested them - can I please see and verify with the ID cards? If somebody wants to make a big issue out of it, that means they are scared," she said.

Actor Naga Chaitanya on Monday participated in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections by casting his vote at the polling booth at Hyderabad.

Clad in a casual white shirt and brown pants along with a pair of sunglasses, Naga Chaitanya arrived in style at his designated polling station in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy cast his vote at a polling booth in Kodangal in the Mahabubnagar constituency during the fourth phase of ongoing Lok Sabha elections on Monday.

CM Reddy was accompanied by his family members.

Ahead of using his franchise, CM Reddy took to X and said, "The future of the country is our responsibility. Voting is the foundation for the strength of Indian democracy. Protection of people's rights. It is possible with a vote. Voting is not only our right... but also our responsibility. It is only when we fulfill our responsibility that we can ask for rights."

"Do not neglect voting. Everyone should vote. You have to play your part in the defense of democracy. Telling the youth too much... Exercise your right to vote," he added.

Telangana recorded an approximate voter turnout of 24.31% till 11 am on Monday as polling was underway for 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state, according to an Election Commission app. Polling which began at 7 am will end by 6 pm, barring at a few places where it will conclude two hours earlier.

Observing that no law and order or any other problem had been reported in the early hours of polling, state Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj said some issues that cropped up in EVMs during mock polling have been addressed.

"All things are in place. Things are going on peacefully. I request everybody to go with family and friends and vote. I voted in the morning," he said.

CM A Revanth Reddy exercised his franchise in his Assembly constituency of Kodangal in Vikarabad district.

BJP MP and candidate from Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, Arvind Dharmapuri who cast his vote in Kakatiya school in Nizamabad appealed to everyone to increase voter turnout and claimed the BJP was "riding a wave".

"Today, it seems that we are riding a wave. I appeal to everyone and step up, vote and increase voter turnout. This is the biggest festival of democracy, participate in it and encourage others to participate too," said Dharmapuri.

Ahead of this Dharmapuri also offered prayers at a local temple. Congress has pitched Tatiparthi Jeevan Reddy against Dharmapuri.

Meanwhile, Former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao cast his vote in Chintamadaka village in his native Siddipet district. Chintamadaka village of Siddipet district lies under Medak Lok Sabha constituency. There are 2300 voters in Chintamadaka village.
