NEW DELHI: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has recently made significant strides in the T20 International (T20I) format, both as a captain and a batsman.
With the T20 World Cup win against Australia on Monday, he has equalled Pakistan captain Babar Azam's record for the most victories as a captain in this format.

Additionally, surpassing his fellow teammate Virat Kohli, Sharma now holds the record for the most runs scored in T20Is.
In terms of captaincy, Sharma has led India to 48 wins in the T20I format, a record he shares with Babar Azam, who also has 48 wins as captain of the Pakistan team.
Sharma's leadership was particularly notable during India's recent 24-run victory over Australia, a match that was his 60th as captain and included all forms of wins, such as those decided by Super Overs.
Rohit Sharma's recent performance has marked a return to form, with the batsman showcasing his skills at a crucial time. Over 157 matches, Sharma has compiled a total of 4,165 runs, achieving an average of 32.03 and a strike rate of 140.75.
This achievement has placed him at the forefront of T20I run-scorers, with Babar Azam now trailing at second place with 4,145 runs from 123 matches, and Virat Kohli at third with 4,103 runs from the same number of matches as Azam.
Following this victory, Rohit Sharma received widespread praise, including from Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who took to social media to commend Sharma's performance and express optimism for India's success in the tournament.

During the match against Australia, Sharma played a pivotal role, scoring 92 runs off 41 deliveries. This significant contribution, along with efforts from other team members, helped India set a challenging target of 205 runs.
Despite a strong performance from Australia's Travis Head, the Indian team, under Sharma's leadership, managed to secure the win by 24 runs.
This win not only highlighted Sharma's effective captaincy but also secured India's place in the semi-final against England, set to take place in Guyana on Thursday.
