In New Mexico there is never a shortage of enchantments. Fondly nicknamed the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico is outworldly in every sense of the word. From its desert landscapes, to its Native American history, everything is delightfully new for travellers coming here. Of course, Albuquerque got its share of popularity from the hit series Breaking Bad, but there is a lot more to explore in this enchanting land. It is evident from the paintings of the great American artist Georgia O'Keeffe; in New Mexico, nature created a mystic marvel.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

A yearly extravaganza in New Mexico’s city of Albuquerque. It is a nine-day treat that usually takes place in the first week of October. The sky over Albuquerque is graced with over 500 hot air balloons during this time, and it is a great spectacle for visitors. One of the main highlights of the festival is the various competitions that take place here. There’s also plenty of photo opportunities, fireworks, and food stalls. The International Balloon Fiesta is definitely a great way to spend your time here in New Mexico and a great treat.

Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum

If you want a closer look into the history, science, sport, and art of ballooning, then this Balloon Museum in Albuquerque is a must-visit attraction for you when in New Mexico. The museum details the history of human aviation, starting from 1783, and traces it to this time and age. The museum was actually built in the honour of Albuquerque aeronauts, Maxie Anderson, and Ben Abruzzo. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

Georgia O'Keeffe Museum

Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is a look into American modernism, and of course the life and times of Georgia O'Keeffe. O'Keeffe was known for her New Mexico landscape paintings, and is often referred to as the Mother of American Modernism. At the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, visitors can visit O’Keefe’s very own studio and home which is part of the museum’s property.

Pueblo Harvest

Have you ever had Native American foods? Pueblo Harvest, founded in 1976 is a culinary feast that entails old recipes from the Native culture. Not only this, but the restaurant also celebrates the tastes of New Mexico. With live music every weekend, the atmosphere here at Pueblo Harvest is eclectic, and not to mention, the setting is beautiful. You can get breathtaking views of the Sandia Mountains as you dine at the patio.

Acoma Pueblo

A Native American village, Acoma Pueblo should be high in the list of places to visit in New Mexico. The four communities of Sky City, Acomita, Anzac, and McCartys make up the Acoma Pueblo, and is a lesson in the history of New Mexico Indians. The Acoma Pueblo dates back to 1150 AD, and is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in North America. Today, you can not only visit, but also stay, dine, and get a first-hand experience of the pueblo. The Acoma Pueblo also has a cultural centre, and a museum.

Shiprock

Located in San Juan County, Shiprock is a wonder of wonders. It is an isolated rock that stands 482.5 m tall, and is an important destination for the Navajo culture. Along with the southwestern corner of Colorado, southeastern corner of Utah, and northeastern corner of Arizona, it forms the Four Corners of Navajo legend. Shiprock is also the name of a town nearby, where you can attend the Northern Navajo Nation Fair that is held every year in the month of October.

White Sands National Park

A national park located on U.S. Route 70, the White Sands National Park with its white sandy landscape is a stellar place to visit. About 800 species of animals have survived the extreme weather conditions here. One interesting species found here is the white species, which includes moths, lizards, and other insects that have gradually changed colour and become white. The park also has 220 species of birds.
