Multiple accounts per person?[edit]
What does it mean in the user creation log when one account creates another account? How do they do that? Why do we allow that? Spıke 🎙️15:08 10-Mar-20
- You can create an account whether or not you're logged in to another one. I think Wikia disallows logged-in users from creating accounts, but they have their own login system that replaces MediaWiki, so I don't know what's going on internally. It could probably be done with user permissions. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 16:21 10 March 2020

Radiohead[edit]
User wants his deleted version back, at User talk:Romartus. I see two deletions but I can't get to the deleted edits with the delete button. Are we missing history of this article? Spıke 🎙️20:42 27-Mar-20
- There's no "undelete" link for an existing page. On the delete form there should be a deletion log with "view/restore" links, or if you click on the history tab, you'll see "View or restore 326 deleted edits?". Or just go to Special:Undelete/Radiohead. I see multiple edits from YouFang, so it looks like it's all there. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 21:08 27 March 2020
I hit the delete button and was told there were 60-odd edits, but all these were of the current incarnation. I'll follow your recommendation and see if I can find it. Spıke 🎙️22:22 27-Mar-20
Okay, I see it. The intro suggests that the function of this page is to add edits to the history of the existing page. In contrast, what I want to do is restore the entire edit history, except the most recent 3 edits, which were a different incarnation, as a new article Paranoid Android. If I thought it would give me a helpful prompt, File exists, Overwrite/Rename/Cancel? then I'd go ahead. Considered temporarily renaming Radiohead but that probably wouldn't fool it. Spıke 🎙️22:31 27-Mar-20
- If you move the current page to a different title, this will leave the deleted edits behind at the old title. You can then restore them as effectively a different article. The checkboxes can be used to restore only certain edits. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 23:37 27 March 2020

Any ideas for Canada comedy strategies for this? All I come up with is:
- How to apply and remove blackface without touching your face
- How to maintain Social Distancing and still block rail shipping
- Chinese scientist working in Canada sent back to Wuhan but allowed to keep the samples Spıke 🎙️16:16 24-Apr-20
- Okay, I'm finally done with exams. You might say something about Canadian politicians' handling of the issue, such as Justin Trudeau and Doug Ford (news articles pulled semi-randomly from search results). Maybe compare and contrast with the US/Trump. My university and former high school have moved classes online, which has made things both more and less awkward, but I think this is fairly typical. They're hoarding toilet paper here too. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:10 28 April 2020

New upcoming VFD script[edit]
I was thinking about making a script that easily handles VFD discussions for sysops that have two options: "(keep) or (delete). It is gonna be called VFDcloser; the "keep" option will keep the article, remove the delete tag in that article and close the discussion, while the "delete" option, however, deletes the article, closes the discussion as delete and optionally protect the deleted article from anonymous creation (the script might happen in User:Whytheonlyone/VFDcloser.js). Christian (via whytheonlyone · chat · email) 23:20, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds useful, but deleting an article also involves: (1) going through its illustrations, seeing if they are now orphaned, and deleting orphans unless some seem fit for reuse; and (2) hitting pages that now have red-links and deciding whether to remove the square brackets or link them to something else. When PuppyOnTheRadio was doing the templates we now use, we were discussing a page an Admin could call up that was a dashboard on that article, with a WhatLinksHere and other helpful tools. In the past, we relied not on automation but a deputy called the Poopsmith to finish the disposal when the Admin or VFD moderator concludes that the vote is complete.
- Short of any of that, you could help by casting votes! Spıke 🎙️23:31 8-Jun-20
- Spike, what do you mean that I could help by casting votes? Christian (via whytheonlyone · chat · email) 23:34, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- You can help get articles deleted (or kept) faster by voting on them.
- I suppose this script would have to be used in conjunction with checking images and links. Delinking can be automated, however, as demonstrated by Twinkle. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 23:42 8 June 2020

templatestyles[edit]
User:Whytheonlyone's latest importation from Wikipedia, today, is a template that assumes we have the templatestyles
extension installed, only we don't. If we did, it would make a lot of things simpler:
- Editors who think their latest dropping would benefit from not having to look like the rest of the encyclopedia could take matters into their own hands, rather than having to ask Admins to further muck up MediaWiki:Common.css
- I would use this to achieve the background photo in the {{UnNews masthead}} rather than the
masthead
class that is sensed by MediaWiki:Common.css - On the other hand, our vandal might note a new way to get unsolicited porno into Uncyclopedia, or there could be additional security problems I don't know about. Spıke 🎙️20:27 21-Jun-20
- TemplateStyles only allows stylesheets in the template namespace, so it shouldn't be a problem. I went ahead and installed it. By default it only allows images from Wikimedia Commons, which I'll change if I can figure out how to write a replacement regular expression for images here. Commons has a certain reputation... ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 22:02 22 June 2020
That would be a good idea; there are illustrations in Commons that might be clinically appropriate but also have shock value if the vandal uses a template to foist it on someone not expecting it. The background I use in the masthead is a shoop and it surely isn't in Commons. Spıke 🎙️22:17 22-Jun-20
- I've set it to allow only images from Uncyclopedia that are current versions. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 02:31 23 June 2020
"Mobile edit"[edit]
Where do these tags come from, "Mobile edit" and "Mobile web edit"? Do we care? Spıke 🎙️18:47 25-Jun-20

- Seems to be a Wikipedia script called RedWarn. I've changed 24 from "block" to "disallow", since blocking individual spam IPs isn't very effective anyway. (It could equally well be just "warn" -- the bot gives up after the first unsuccessful save attempt.) ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:26 26 June 2020

Fandom[edit]
I may have made a superficial read of this article, but my point to the newbie about sticking a warning at the start of the page is valid. If you believe it doesn't even have the comedy strategy I inferred, you would be a good person to give it one. Creating an article about something, then writing about something completely different, is only funny if there is some relation. I inferred a relation but didn't read closely enough if you say there was none. Pashute puts his very random style on full display at Collective term, which I post-edited to remove non-encyclopedic stuff like warning the reader how random it was. Spıke 🎙️16:55 2-Jul-20
- No, the article shouldn't explain the joke. It does have the strategy of discussing the stereotypical fangirl who obsesses over "hot" male characters and pairs them up with each other, which has promise but could use some work. Then it digresses into a section about formerly-Wikia before coming back to fandom/fanfiction. I've removed Factfinder's additions, which is a start. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 17:48 2 July 2020

Numerous new modules[edit]
Have you been noticing what User:Whytheonlyone has been doing? evidently importing a bunch of code from Wikipedia? I drew the line when I saw a template that redirected to his userspace, but wonder whether the new stuff works, whether it will break Uncyclopedia on my vintage browser, and what the heck he's doing, nothing that anyone has expressed a need for. Spıke 🎙️00:47 7-Jul-20
- Module:Userbox in style has the perfect shape, and I consider it the "perfect" userbox. whytheonlyone💬🤠 01:38, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
"Perfect" is an expression often used by people who are certain what other people's values should be. Despite that, I await Llwy's opinion. Spıke 🎙️01:40 7-Jul-20
- I've been studying for a computer programming exam, but the language used is Python, which is of no help here. Modules are written in Lua. They were introduced to Wikipedia as a supposedly less performance-intensive way to write templates, at the expense of shutting out anyone who doesn't know Lua -- though wikitext-only templates already do this for anyone who isn't familiar with them. I don't think we have anyone here who knows how to work with Wikipedia-style templates or modules. Pasting Wikipedia's code here is probably harmless, but they'll always be ahead of us on software (keep in mind the Wikimedia wikis run an unreleased "wmf" version of MediaWiki), and it's another thing we don't really know how to maintain. We do have simpler templates that get the job done. Most wikis don't need to be as complicated as Wikipedia. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 16:51 7 July 2020
I sort of understand the code, except for the :
operator which looks a little like it's trying to do something jQuery-like. But I wouldn't be able to maintain it, either, except by imitation, to extend it, or especially to know my extensions were the most elegant way or even they didn't defeat the purpose of being non-performance-intensive. Nor will Whytheonlyone after, say, he gets a girlfriend. Romartus doesn't mess with the gadgets we already have, and I don't know of any other technicians among us. This would seem to be an airtight rationale for not continuing with this. Spıke 🎙️19:57 7-Jul-20

Upon further review, I have found that Module:Infobox does not work. Romartus edited Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (up for a VFH vote) to remove the Infobox entirely, as it was rendering only as a Lua error message. I deleted the Module, restored the Template, restored the Star Wars article, and warned Whytheonlyone on his talk page to desist or be permabanned. I don't know what else he may have broken. Hi Llwy, Is it possible to remove the error tags on this page?: https://uncyclopedia.ca/w/index.php?title=Uncyclopedia:VFH/Featured&action=edit. One marked as number 14 was for an article that wasn't featured in the end. Also, on this page - https://uncyclopedia.ca/wiki/Uncyclopedia:VFH/Potato for example. The (feature) (remove) links should be either removed or replaced by the 'Feature this Article' or 'Fail this Article' you created on this page. That latter system works fine and I have been using it for the past two years without a problem. The other one is the older way of doing it and now no longer works. HowTo talk:Recognize and fight a boss without losing your last life[edit]
We seem to have an article in the HowTo: space that begins with a space. pageid
is 304343. Trying to call it up with WhatLinksHere produces an error, discussed on the above talk page. Special:BrokenRedirects is now broken. You might have to go in and delete this page, which should be a redirect. See the above link; conversation continued at User talk:Dark Web, White Hat#HowTo:Recognize and Fight a Boss without Losing your Last Life. Spıke 🎙️22:26 5-Apr-21
- I've found in the past that Special:ApiSandbox can be used to easily move a page with an impossible title if one knows the pageid. I moved the offending redirect to HowTo:Recognize and Fight a Boss without Losing your Last Life, the correct title. It shouldn't cause any more problems and can be deleted if desired, but Special:BrokenRedirects is now complaining about an unrelated page called "_Take_It_Easy,_Man", and my move has broken Special:RecentChanges and Special:Log in their attempts to show it. I don't know what I can do about that. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 02:53 7 April 2021
- I don't know if this is relevant or helpful but "HowTo:Take It Easy, Man" was deleted very recently: Uncyclopedia:Votes_for_deletion/Archive-2021-04. "Take It Easy, Man" never existed; it seems it's stripping the namespace. (talk) 03:18, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hey, I think I figured it out! It sounds like this bug, which has a maintenance script fix. (talk) 03:39, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you for figuring this out. I think this is another result of the fact that people were writing HowTo: articles before there was a HowTo: namespace, some with spaces after the colon, which were translated into illegal page names. Spıke 🎙️11:22 7-Apr-21
- Thanks DWWH for the maintenance script. I've (finally) run it and cleared some of the problem entries away, but it turns out it doesn't fix the page table, which is probably why Special:BrokenRedirects still isn't working. Another script may be needed. We'll see. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:58 1 May 2021
- Special:BrokenRedirects is back after running mw:Manual:namespaceDupes.php and mw:Manual:cleanupTitles.php. This also cleared the bogus entries off Special:WantedPages, which was still reporting existing pages with custom namespaces. Unfortunately most of the invalid titles had to be moved to "Broken/Page title" because cleanupTitles couldn't convert them into something sensible. If you see a title like this, that's what's going on. I'll try to rename the ones worth fixing properly. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 18:44 22 May 2021

I started in on this job, but right off the bat, Broken/SS (about the German letter) wants to move to ß (SS is about the Nazi agency) but MediaWiki faithfully translates the former to the latter on every attempt. Need magic. Spıke 🎙️19:51 22-May-21
Need more magic. I also worked DoubleRedirects, but in the only entry remaining, HowTo:Take It Easy, Man, I see no difference between the three renditions, and when I cut the third and paste it into the contents of the first, MW tells me I made no change. Spıke 🎙️21:42 22-May-21
- "ß" can no longer begin titles because of changes to Unicode case functions in PHP 7.3. I've moved it to the capital version ẞ.
- HowTo:Take It Easy, Man redirected to itself. The article was moved from "HowTo: Take It Easy, Man" (with a space) to "HowTo:Take It Easy, Man", and these normalize to the same title. Since the original article was deleted at VFD, there was nowhere for the redirect to go, so I deleted it. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 22:50 22 May 2021

Robert Bassili[edit]
Dark Web, White Hat listed this for deletion and I did so, as it's clearly vanity or an advertisement for the person. I saw in the page history that you had manually resurrected the page; also that most of the edits were attributed to wikia>Nasdaqau, a username which, when I clicked on it to see the other contributions, sent me over to Wikia/FANDOM! Is this supposed to happen? Spıke 🎙️13:08 26-Apr-21
- I was busy that day, but I'm back. Yes and no. Manual imports through Special:Import don't just insert data for nonexistent accounts into the database, and it requires an interwiki prefix now for the site the page came from, so I gave it "wikia". This is how that comes out in the history. Not great, but it preserves attribution. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 06:45 28 April 2021

Template:Basepage subpage[edit]
What is it? I was editing a page and the preview told me this template was used on the page. Has someone invented a cosmic hierarchy of all Uncyclopedia pages? Can we do anything useful with it? If not, can we make it go away? Spıke 🎙️23:00 21-May-21
- I've seen this before. I just tracked it down, and it turns out {{top icon}} uses {{category handler}}, which uses the nonexistent templates {{basepage subpage}} and {{if pagename}}. I wasn't aware of the missing dependencies when I created {{top icon}} to use with {{FA}} and other top icon templates. I may as well bring over the other templates, unless we never want it to categorize pages, in which case that functionality can be removed.
- As for what {{basepage subpage}} does (or would do), Wikipedia's version is at wikipedia:Template:When on basepage: "It helps other templates detect if they are on a basepage (i.e. a page whose name matches the pattern "x:x") subpage ("x:x/x") or subsubpage ("x:x/x/x")." Uncyclopedia search engine[edit]
BFDIBebble today corrected the URL of https://mycroftproject.com/search-engines.html?name=uncyclopedia.ca — a search engine for Mozilla Firefox that someone thinks is better than Uncyclopedia's Special:Search, which wouldn't be hard. Unfortunately, it was in {{FirefoxSearch}}, a floating template planted in a couple mainspace articles, inviting the user to go to that website to install it; that is, an advertisement; and I deleted the template. However, if you find this search engine is better than ours and if we have permission, you might install it as the search engine Uncyclopedia offers up if the user long-presses on the search bar or whatever. Spıke 🎙️01:29 17-Jun-21
- This seems to be a Firefox plugin that adds a button to Firefox's search bar leading to Special:Search, so it's really just advertising our own search function. Maybe it could be mentioned on a help page (Help:Searching could use something more than a link to Wikia). I think the default search can only be replaced with mw:Extension:GoogleCustomWikiSearch or mw:Extension:CirrusSearch. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:09 17 June 2021
- The Mycroft project is mentioned and linked by Mozilla, but unnecessary. Firefox has a feature where search engines can be added from a drop-down menu in the URL bar (It works through the OpenSearch standard, and ours is downloadable here from our site itself). I'm going to link to the Mozilla support thing instead, which has step-by-step pictures. (talk) 05:21, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
- Done Help:Searching had been orphaned before your talk page linked to it, so I put it in Template:Beginner's Guide. I uploaded several screenshots more relevant to Uncyclopedia, and rewrote the page. (talk) 08:48, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Module namespace edits[edit]
I noticed 186.96.209.70 made some intelligent-nonsense edits to the module namespace. They didn't do anything wrong, and in fact I invited them to join with {{IPjoin}}.
They created Module:Equestria with:
mw.logObject(Equestria) mw.log(Equestria) equestria(Equestria)
and created Module:Equestria/doc with:
Equestria
Maybe they're a My Little Pony: Equestria Girls fan. The code is nonsensical, lacking functions to call and the undeclared object Equestria, so I deleted both pages.
Anyway: our Template namespace is locked down to registered users who are autoconfirmed (4 days, 10 edits), but our Module namespace isn't. It probably should be, right? I think the setting is mw:Manual:$wgNamespaceProtection, if you think it would be a good idea to protect that namespace. (talk) 00:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- The template protection was one of several ineffective measures against a specific vandal. Most new users won't know how to write modules, but there haven't been any large-scale problems with them (yet), so I'm not concerned about protecting the namespace. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:30 10 July 2021

It would be nice if, when I deleted an offensive page, it actually went away! I even used Timelord power to censor the history, but there it still sits in RecentChanges. Spıke 🎙️10:05 15-Aug-21
- Creations of deleted pages used to disappear on their own, but this doesn't seem to be happening anymore. You can probably get around this by restoring it and deleting the edit summary from the page history.
- BTW DarksydePhil/DSPGaming is well-known in some circles, so I don't see a problem with someone creating an article if they can fit in better. HolyCombineWarrior is clearly used to the ED/4chan-type sites. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:26 16 August 2021
Thanks, that did it (though I'd prefer the entry go away entirely).
The problem is that a YouTube personality is a smallish clique or club and, as I told OP, most of the Uncyclopedia articles written around these are "somewhere between inside jokes and overt advertisements" and OP's is too. This is why our vanity policy uses the existence of a Wikipedia article (or Codeine's Mum) as the standard for notability. The problem is not that Phil is a totally invented character, though I am squarer than Codeine's Mum; the problem is that he was not writing to amuse the general Uncyclopedia reader, easily confirmed on reading the copy of his lowbrow article still in his userspace.
At any rate, the page I've been wrestling with has all the marks of a rage-quit. Spıke 🎙️00:40 16-Aug-21

See my post to User talk:Romartus#New user today. The one I already permabanned; what do you think of the other? Spıke 🎙️03:54 13-Sep-21
- Flavour is unlikely to be a spambot. The kind of spambots we get nowadays use usernames suggesting a real name, usually "FirstnameLastname" or similar, and they never make just one attempt at a user page without line breaks or external links. Flavour only made a single, successful edit, whereas KieraWootton tried twice before getting in and then made four iterations of the page.
- KieraWootton is definitely a spambot and is also not that new, having been created over a month ago. These bots will keep trying with the same account for weeks. I blocked the other three so this doesn't happen with them. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:23 13 September 2021
I see you welcomed Flavour, but I'm betting she's a spambot too. Her single edit contained an effusive, three-factoid autobiography. Most spambots do the same thing, and their claimed name is not their account name, when it's a person. "KieraWootton" did the same sort of thing, then revised it with two other inconsistent autobiographies. The strategy is to posture as a new user the average male Admin will be reluctant to ban. Spıke 🎙️04:35 13-Sep-21
- Flavour's page does resemble the "nothing to say about me really" text, but nothing else fits. Let's wait and see if she makes any more edits. As spambots continue to evolve, we'll eventually face a newer and smarter kind. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 05:39 13 September 2021
Very well. Spıke 🎙️10:00 13-Sep-21
Category:Welsh[edit]
Assuming you corrected this text, what is the text of a system prompt doing in the definition of a Category, anyway? Spıke 🎙️00:02 25-Oct-21
- M1EAU created the category with the Welsh version of the "You have followed a link to a page that doesn't exist ..." message (customized at MediaWiki:Newarticletext). The effect is something like TV Tropes' Describe Topic Here. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 01:37 25 October 2021
I don't like cracking wise with the nav-tools, but if it seems deliberate to you, all right. Spıke 🎙️02:09 25-Oct-21
JavaScript failure?[edit]
See my report at User talk:Dark Web, White Hat. You were editing common.js the day before yesterday? Spıke 🎙️14:31 29-Oct-21
- I was editing common.css, so it's probably nothing I did. The site notice is working for me. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 23:22 29 October 2021
Oh, right you are. But I haven't touched User:Spike/common.js; has something changed in the implementation that would have made it fail? 23:31 29-Oct-21 Something is failing before or while it tries to load jQuery. 23:36 29-Oct-21 Sorry, false alarm, JavaScript was unchecked in this browser. Spıke 🎙️04:03 30-Oct-21
Something's broken again! and if I screwed up again, it's not the same way I screwed up last time. About midnight UTC, my common.js failed at the kitchen table (Firefox 10). (It's working fine on the phone.) One of the last messages from the web console is from JQMIGRATE, version 3.3.2, "Proxy is not a constructor".) Did something change? Spıke 🎙️13:12 22-Dec-21
- I just upgraded to 1.35.5 two days ago, and the release notes tell me jQuery was upgraded from 3.4.1 to 3.6.0 and jquery-migrate was upgraded from 3.1.0 to 3.3.2. Something may not work under jQuery 3.6. The release notes for 3.6 and 3.5 might have the answer. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 06:58 23 December 2021
Nothing works, not even dropdowns. Patrolling edits is a chore. Semi-modern PC in the man-cave works OK. Do we still call for jQ from their site, so there is some hope that migrate might eventually migrate, as they fixed the notorious version 2? Otherwise, I am not equipped to diagnose nor re-code this failure. Do we need this jQuery? Does it break more stuff if we downgrade back? Miraheze (which hasn't run on my old gear in years) also upgraded MediaWiki, reporting a security hole in the old MediaWiki. Sez you have to try hard to penetrate it, but hackers often do. Spıke 🎙️14:01 23-Dec-21
ArsebOOk[edit]
Before I VFD this, is there a comedy point to this article's consistent awfulness? Spıke 🎙️23:50 2-Nov-21
- It's a toilet-humor play on Facebook, concluding with the parody moral "you may have a good idea on the toilet, but shit still happens". Whether it succeeds in being funny is another matter. Jimlemon wrote this and might have more to say if he reappears. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:05 3 November 2021

Patroller[edit]
I was going to give OnePunch patroller
rights. Where did that option go? Spıke 🎙️15:13 6-Nov-21
- I based the current user groups on what the Wikia site had. I could add a patroller group, but I don't remember us ever having one. The closest is rollback. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 11:15 7 November 2021
That'll do. Spıke 🎙️11:56 7-Nov-21
- Regarding your message on User talk:OnePunch, we don't have move rights restricted to rollback now, but to autoconfirmed users. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:21 8 November 2021

Transclusion report bug[edit]
I'm getting buggy transclusion reports for secondary templates on user pages. It affects Special:WantedTemplates, Special:UnusedTemplates, and other reports, making dependency tracking somewhat unreliable.
If initially user page X calls template Y which calls template Z, rewriting Y to not need Z isn't tracked by the system, and Z keeps showing up as used. I can still delete the unused templates to no ill effect, but the system thinks something's broken when it isn't. This persists despite null edits and purges.
Two examples of obsolete helper templates:
- on Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Navbarmini, there's a false positive transclusion in User:Cadarado425. User:Cadarado425 uses {{Star Wars}}, which no longer needs {{Navbarmini}} because I made it use
{{Navbar|mini=y}}
instead today. - on Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Weather box/FtoC, there's a false positive transclusion in User:BetterSkatez2012. User:BetterSkatez2012 uses {{Weather box}}, which depends purely on Lua modules since July.
If I go to edit User:BetterSkatez2012, Template:Weather box/FtoC appears in "Templates used in this preview". If I change nothing and hit "Show preview", it disappears from "Templates used in this preview". It returns if I edit the page again. The API sandbox also reports this dependency, yet parsing the page for templates reports no dependency on Template:Weather box/FtoC.
My conclusion is that it keeps serving stale data. I'm baffled as to why. Any idea about this? (talk) 07:23, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know what's going on here. I'd expect clearing the cache of these pages would refresh the transclusion data, but somehow that's not happening. Still showing the stale transclusions over a week later. Similarly, Category:Pages with broken file links is full of false positives. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 15:38 2 December 2021
- Well thanks for looking into it, just the same. (talk) 02:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's the link table. I discovered that with a helper template of Template:Trim, deleting a given page linking to it, and then immediately restoring that page, is enough to jog the links. It would probably be disruptive and/or rude to do this a lot, especially with user pages. The refreshLinks maintenance script would also jog the links. Probably not worth it either though, since it sounded like it slowed the site down last time.
- I knocked out several thousand in that category with the mass purge feature of the ApiSandbox and
forcelinkupdate
flagged. It wasn't terribly important for me to do, but there are far fewer false positives in the category anyway. (talk) 09:32, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Intelligent Move form[edit]
Ever since its inception, the "intelligent" form to move pages — specifically, the pulldown for Namespace — has tricked me and often Romartus, when moving a page between namespaces, such as just now in my Mercy Move from UnNews: to User:. We are both smart enough to type our own namespace names, or to delete one in favor of another, but we don't get it right when it is done for us! Can we be rid of this field? or does that require a rewrite of a piece of MediaWiki? Spıke 🎙️16:34 17-Jan-22
- I don't know a way around this, but it looks like DWWH is working on it. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:46 19 January 2022
- @Spike: it's not a built-in option. I won't be offended if you think it's too slow to be useful; I'm satisfied that I got it to work conceptually. Adding these lines to your personal JavaScript should make the namespace dropdown menu of e.g. Special:MovePage/Uncyclopedia:Sandbox change to (Main) after a moment:
/* Change default namespace for moves to mainspace */ if ( mw.config.get( 'wgCanonicalSpecialPageName' ) === 'Movepage' ) { // First wait for OOJS to load, and then the page to be ready $.when( mw.loader.using( [ 'oojs', 'oojs-ui-core', 'oojs-ui-widgets' ] ), $.ready ).then( function() { var button = OO.ui.ButtonWidget.static.infuse( '#wpNewTitle' ); if ( button[ "namespace" ].getValue( wpNewTitleNs ) !== 0 ) { button[ "namespace" ].setValue( wpNewTitleNs, 0 ); } } ); }
- The concept is that PHP code can sometimes expose an interface allowing JavaScript manipulation of buttons as objects. (talk) 07:25, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Never heard of OOJS; the last new thing I heard about was jQuery. Indeed it isn't instantaneous, nor was your Purge workaround, but it works (except, of course, at the kitchen table). Thanks! Spıke 🎙️11:44 19-Jan-22

Receiving a message about out of date certificates for the site. Sent an email also. Can you please check Llwy? Thanks. RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 00:26, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I got that too. I clicked on "I understand the risks", though I don't understand the risks; probably, that you could be pretending to be you. Bottom line, Romartus, with the usual "for your protection" rationale, every website needs a certificate, and these expire regularly. I think there is nothing Llwy can do about it, though if she can register with an authority and ensure ongoing certification without lapses, this would avoid confusing the newbies. To some people, someone's assertion that Uncyclopedia is "untrustworthy" is more important than that it is funny. Spıke 🎙️00:51 15-Dec-22
- Perhaps we could have a mocked up'untrustworthy' notice for special days but otherwise I think it might put off people visiting, thinking the site is hosting crypto-currency and porn. RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 01:21, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Rather than turning the problem into a joke, I would have us solve the problem, if possible. It will indeed put off some people, though it doesn't recur (for a long time) once you click that you "understand the risks." Even a joke regarding the trustworthiness of the website will put off some people. Spıke 🎙️01:38 15-Dec-22
- Sorry, I've been studying for a final exam and forgot to renew the certificate. Should be fixed now.
- I get our certificates from Let's Encrypt, which is free but only lasts three months and has to be updated manually. - Thanks, but what you did won't work. If you merge the new account into the old account, the information for the new account is discarded. You have to merge the old account into the new account and then rename it to the old name. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 17:26 23 December 2022
- (1) Any chance the prompts on the Special page could spell that out? (2) Does this mean I have just made the forgotten password the only one that works on the new account? (3) Can you sort this out? Spıke 🎙️11:42 25-Dec-22
- I've added some text to Special:UserMerge, which by default doesn't explain much. Since you chose to delete Kyriakin1, the password for it is gone and would have to be retrieved from a backup. I might be able to do that, but I'd prefer they create a second account. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 22:29 28 December 2022
- Thanks! I have asked on User talk:Kyriakin that he create Kyriakin2 and we (you?) will do the operation correctly next time. Spıke 🎙️22:34 28-Dec-22
I totally forgot about this, and just recently came back across it as I am, yet again, trying to organise all my old online accounts across hundreds of websites.
"Kyriakin" didn't login with either password, and setting up a new account with that name failed due to it already being in use.
"Kyriakin1" didn't login with either password either, but I was allowed to make a new Kyriakin1 (i.e. this account I am logged in as now).
I've barely ever used this site, but still may as well try again to merge them as "Kyriakin" for the sake of simplicity. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kyriakin1 (talk • contribs)
- I've merged the accounts. You should be able to log in as Kyriakin with your new password. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 01:53 16 February 2024
Merry Potato Logo[edit]

Doge logo[edit]
Elon Musk has replaced his website's famous logo with the Doge dog. It would be amusing if we replaced Sophia the Potato with a dog until Elon wanders away to do something else and his employees fix it and beg people to drop their lawsuits. Spıke 🎙️18:49 5-Apr-23
- I noticed the Twitter logo. There are power outages across large parts of eastern Canada at the moment, so I wouldn't mind if someone else does something to the logo for a change. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 22:26 6 April 2023
Uncyclopedia info[edit]
https://uncyclopedia.info/wiki/Main_Page. Something up there? RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 15:40, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- I don't maintain uncyclopedia.info, so you'll have to ask one of the admins there why the main page is broken. Carlb hosts the site and doesn't seem to be doing active maintenance at the moment. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 15:33 10 November 2023

I am receiving this message everytime I try and upload a new image. Space problems Llwy? Thanks. RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:27, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- Also, the illustration at Rod Stewart, which I resurrected for use in this article, isn't rendering a thumbnail. It's the same symptoms as were happening a couple weeks ago and were corrected. 18:58 5-Feb-24 Fixed now, thanks. Spıke 🎙️21:53 6-Feb-24
Some sort of bug? ish?[edit]
So i was looking at my own contribs page like any other normal person, and i got sent to this one, which you might notice isn't mine. And then after trying to check my own contribs for like the third time i got my own (the one that belongs to the IP i'm using now). I think that's a bug or something like that 2001:4647:76FD:4:0:0:0:1007 20:34, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- If you aren't logged in, looking at your contribs by clicking on the contribs tag will show contributions by that IP. I follow the link on the IPv4 and see no contributions at all. Your IPv6 signature here shows no contributions except the above post. So, what is your user name that you say redirects to an Anon contributions report? In other words, what are you looking for? Spıke 🎙️20:52 1-Mar-24
- I was trying to check my contribs while logged out and then i got the contribs page for an IP that doesn't belong to me. That's about everything i know. 2001:4647:76FD:4:0:0:0:1007 15:47, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Then log in; that is how Uncyclopedia knows who you are. Not a bug, in my opinion. Spıke 🎙️17:08 2-Mar-24
- You can try a site like https://www.whatismyip.com to see if you really are using that IP. If you're sure it's not yours, it could be a caching issue. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 17:13 2 March 2024
Space/Thumbnail errors?[edit]
Hi Llwy. I am getting this error message: Error creating thumbnail: convert: Output file write error --- out of disk space? `/tmp/transform_9637d1ef7c80.jpg' @ error/jpeg.c/JPEGErrorHandler/335. Error code: 1 Thanks, RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

"Mobile edit" bis[edit]
Continuing from above, now that we understand where these are coming from, can we make them stop? In 2024, the fact that someone is editing on a phone is simply not notable to an Admin patrolling RecentChanges. Spıke 🎙️15:36 31-Mar-24
- I don't think you can remove tags marked as "defined by the software". ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 07:28 18 April 2024
- Just glad to see we're back on-line. I hadn't checked either what was going which was amiss of me. RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:56, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- It looks like space issues again. I've just set up a cron job to clear out the log files every day. This doesn't solve the underlying problem but should prevent the crashes and thumbnail errors. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 15:22 22 April 2024

Worst reasons to become an American Christian[edit]
Today you reverted this article back to the last decade, paring it down from 51K to 7K and undoing a lot of work of the didactic and usually unfunny Factfinder/Factfinder510. The Edit Summary says you reverted to a version of Simsilikesims, but it is not simply a revert of the most recent editor but it undoes several of her edits too. Not doubting that the older version you selected is preferable, but is this what you intended to do? Spıke 🎙️01:19 25-Jul-24
- Mainly I intended to undo Factfinder's work and didn't take the time to do anything more complicated. I did think Simsilikesims' more recent edits were a bit serious in tone but don't mind readding them. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 00:04 28 July 2024
Soviet Space Program[edit]
Can't edit this page. Pages are taking 20 seconds to come up. Please fix it. Spıke 🎙️19:53 3-Aug-24
- Don't know if this is related to Spike's concern, as it also takes a bit for a page to load for me, but for the past two days when I've tried to edit, with both 'Save changes' and 'Show preview', I get a blank page with "500 Interal Server Error" and "nginx/1.22.2". That being said, it's probably gonna do it now, unless you're reading this, in which case, it did not. OnePunch 00:23, 4-Aug-24
That's exactly what I got. Hitting the Back button took me back to the page edit screen (with the unedited page, sigh!). Ultimately I was able to edit by section. Spıke 🎙️17:01 4-Aug-24
- I can edit the page. I don't know what happened here, but I did have to start Varnish this morning because it had crashed for some reason. Apache and Varnish should now automatically (re)start themselves every day. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 05:07 5 August 2024

The Big Machine uses Uncyclopedia without complaining about certificate (though Message-of-the-Day appears again, naturally). I was RollbackAll'ing the Poland/Cocaine vandal in his return today and would have banned him, after letting him waste the maximum time first, generally 40 minutes. Related: Llwy, I wish the batch that deletes files enqueued by Special:Nuke ran every 10 or 15 minutes rather than every hour, to further minimize vandals' sense of accomplishment. Spıke 🎙️22:52 24-Oct-24
Abuse filters[edit]
Your change to this Abuse Filter looks appropriate. I edited a different Abuse Filter (#24) on 21-Oct, to change it from Warn to Block and change the text explanation for the reason I documented there. I've looked at all the new users it has blocked since then, and they are similar and perhaps the same 'bot. Registering a user name that looks like a full name (generally female), creating a user page cloyingly identifying themselves by name, but it isn't the name they registered as, usually including profession, hobbies, or studies and often sprinkling in some non-ASCII look-alike characters, and giving as "their web page" a sales website, often Fake Rolex Watches. A few of the new users deposit a longer essay, but still with advertising woven in. Spıke 🎙️23:36 4-Nov-24
- These are the same NTSAMR spambots that have plagued MediaWiki wikis for years, except now they're smart enough to get through dynamic QuestyCaptcha questions.
The method we're using has been cracked since 2014, so it's surprising they took so long to get in. I decided not to use the method described in that article because I thought it would be too much work for humans.Actually we're using a simplified version where the correct answer is the whole string, which was effective because the spambots apparently didn't find the answer by parsing the question. Maybe they've fixed that, or maybe they've just memorized all possible variants. - Unfortunately it looks like actual people are tripping the filter with usernames that don't match the pattern I intended to target, so I'll have to revise it again. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 02:00 5 November 2024
Thank you for the research! Now, overnight, AF25 blocked repeat attempts to register two new usernames using CamelCase names. I don't doubt that these are not bona fide Uncyclopedians, but don't see what about these usernames makes them spambot-like. It would suffice to let AF24 cashier them once they create the inevitable user page. Spıke 🎙️14:03 5-Nov-24
- Bots are a bane! RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 15:58, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Mostly, as advertising is a bane, consisting of the delivery of messages the recipient doesn't want. 'Bots on Uncyclopedia deliver messages which (by Abuse Filter or Admin edit), no one sees. The real outrage is that there is surely an "advertising agency" that nevertheless collects the fee. Spıke 🎙️16:20 5-Nov-24
