Sports Medicine

The University of Texas at El Paso Sports Medicine Department is committed to delivering the highest quality of healthcare to all of its student-athletes. The certified athletic training staff serves as primary care givers for each student-athlete as well as clinical educators, supervisors and mentors for its athletic training students. The staff maintains current knowledge and improves their skillset through participation in regular in-services and attendance at educational conferences annually.

The primary goal of the UTEP Sports Medicine Department is to prevent injuries from occurring, when possible. This is achieved through movement screening and subsequent corrective exercises to rule out and correct potential body movement abnormalities before they become problematic. UTEP athletic trainers, in coordination with our team physicians, also work diligently to protect and return the injured student-athlete to sport participation as quickly and safely as possible. Each athletic trainer possesses knowledge in injury prevention, injury recognition, evaluation and assessment; emergency care; and the treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries. The University of Texas at El Paso strives to deliver current, evidence based healthcare to each and every student-athlete, regardless of his or her sport or personal team standing.

The staff of ten certified athletic trainers and approximately 15 athletic training students provide medical coverage for the 17 intercollegiate athletic programs at UTEP.
