STX Entertaintment has reached into the investment and publishing worlds for the new head of its communications operation — tapping Patricia Rockenwagner as chief communications officer.

STX Entertainment President Sophie Watts announced the hiring of Rockenwagner, who comes to the company from Advance Vixeid Partners, the independent investment arm of Advance Publications and Condé Nast.

Rockenwagner previously had the top corporation branding and communications post at magazine publisher Condé Nast and before that, held a variety of senior executive communications and branding jobs at McGraw Hill Financial (now S&P Global), Paramount Pictures, Time Warner Cable, Comcast and AT&T.

In the newly-created job, Rockenwagner will be part of STX’s management team and lead the company’s efforts to promote its endeavors in the development, financing, production, marketing and distribution of content for  film, television, VR, digital video, music video and games.

Watts praised Rockenwagner’s experience and said it would give STX and advantage in finding new ways to work with partners and connecting with audiences. “As STX Entertainment enters the next phase of expansion and growth, we look forward to harnessing her deep branding knowledge, strategic counsel, content expertise and entrepreneurial leadership,” Watts said.

Rockenwagner, in turn, praised STX Chairman and CEO Robert Simonds and the rest of the company for creating “a bold new model for a media company in the 21st century.”

The communications executive started her career in politics, working for Senators Ted Kennedy in Washington D.C., Art Torres in Sacramento and Tom Hayden in Los Angeles.
