Robert Holdstock was born in Kent in 1948 and studied medical Zoology before becoming a fulltime writer in 1975.
Holdstock's books are generally dark and easy to become immersed in, he has an ability to create an atmosphere that is rich and realistic. There are recurrent themes of forests and wild areas, ancient myths and legends, and primitive lifestyles.
In a number of his books, there are primitive cultures, sometimes historical, sometimes alien, which are encountered and explored by modern people. His style is interesting and there is a relaxed flow to the storylines which belies their intensity.
For serious fans of Fantasy and Science Fiction, he is an author to seek out.
