Delhi – Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) information

Introduction

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the main transportation hub for all of northern India. Annual passenger traffic is 8.5 million, about 45 percent of which is international. More than 30 international carriers have flights connecting with major cities around the world. The airport is located 23kms southwest of the Delhi/New Delhi metropolitan area. Two terminals, international (known as Terminal II) and domestic (Terminal I), are 8kms apart and are linked by courtesy shuttle buses.

Airport parking at Delhi

Car parks adjacent to both terminals are subdivided into standard and premium areas. Rates for standard parking are about €0.50 for every 4 hours; premium parking nearer the terminal costs €1.50 for 4 hours. Complimentary shuttle bus service is provided between the international terminal and the car park.

Getting to and from Delhi

Buses to central Delhi depart from outside the arrivals halls of both terminals, and run every 20 minutes day and night. The journey time into the city is 50 minutes, and the fare is equivalent to €1. Air-conditioned coaches to Punjab (Amritsar) via Rajpura also depart from Terminal II’s arrivals hall (fare, €10). Prepaid taxi service is available for transport to Delhi and its environs. Fares to destinations within greater Delhi run about €3.

Amenities at Delhi – Indira Gandhi International Airport

Banks with currency exchange facilities and ATMs are available in both terminals. A post office in Terminal II is located in the departures hall, as is a well-stocked chemist shop. Duty-free shops in the transit hall offer handicrafts, garments, electronic goods and liquor. There are snack bars and restaurants in the arrivals and departures lounges in both terminals. Executive lounges with business facilities are located in the transit area of Terminal II, and in halls A and B of Terminal I.
