Town twinning

The city of York is proud to be twinned with Dijon in the Burgundy region of France and Munster in the North Rhine Westphalia region of Germany.

Dijon and Munster have much in common with York. They are old cities with a historic townscape and are rich in tradition.

The partnership with Dijon was formed in 1953, and in 2007 York will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the partnership with Munster, which was formed in 1957.

Over the past 50 years, formal civic exchange visits have taken place and thousands of residents have also enjoyed cultural exchange visits to both cities.

More information on the partnership with Munster can be found on the York Munster Association website.

For more information on York’s twin cities see the Dijon and Munster websites. The council is not responsible for the content or reliability of external websites.
