Nintendo puts a price on Wii

Yours for a maximum of about 120 quid if reports from Japan are anything to believed
Nintendo's been tight-lipped about how much we can expect to pay for its forthcoming Wii so far, merely stating it'll hit shelves at a price significantly lower than the competition. Now though, it seems the company's revealed that we should be forking out a maximum of around 120 GBP come launch, according to translated reports from Famitsu.com.

Speaking at the company's latest press conference unveiling its financial results, Nintendo revealed that Wii would arrive in Japanese stores with a maximum price tag of 25,000 yen. Whipping out our calculators and doing some quick sums, that roughly translates as 222 USD or 174 euros. By way of comparison, the PS3 will retail for 62,790 yen (558 USD/437 euro) at launch, while the Xbox 360 currently sells at 39,795 yen (277 USD/353 euro).

Obviously that 120 GBP is a direct conversion, but even so, it's looking like Wii's going to be an affordable little console indeed when it launches later this year.

No doubt the greedy retailers if this is true will put another 30 quid on it to get it to 150 ; but please let this be true as oh yes baby nice price :) £120 WOULD BE OH SO NICE

Chances are there will be another 30 quid added to the price as someone else has already suggested. It really depends what comes with the Wii straight out of the box, with talk of two nunchuck controllers packed with the system. I hope Wii Sports is bundled with it too.
£120/£150 though...it's a damn sight better than the PS3's price tag.

Brilliant! I now have my Xbox360 and will be spending my cash on Nintendo's Wii (Great price), Zelda, Red Steel, Smash Bros & Gears of War, Forza 2 and Mass Effect. What a year :D

That's a very strong price point in what is - IMO - a generally overpriced market. That being the case I doubt I'm the only person that feels this way, so the Wii could sell well purely based on that.
