Southern Illinois University Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Southern Illinois University alumnus who played baseball at the Southern Illinois University AND made it to the Major League level.

"What he's (Roy Halladay) feeling, I've lived. You feel like you're on your own (when trying to win a Cy Young). You feel like it's you against everybody, even your own team. You feel like you can't take a day off or have an off day because you're not allowed to — and in my case, I wouldn't allow myself to. You feel like you've got to complete every game, every time." - Dave Stieb in Toronto Sun (September 4, 2003)

Southern Illinois University M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Southern Illinois University baseball program started in 1946 and Ray Rippelmeyer was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the Southern Illinois University Hall of Fame.

The Salukis play their home games at Abe Martin Field — a natural grass paradise set into the countryside and named on April 30, 1972 in honor of Glenn "Abe" Martin, who retired in 1971 after thirty-three (33) years of service, including nineteen (19) as head baseball coach.

Did you know that there are twenty-five (25) former Southern Illinois University players who made it to "the show"? Send corrections (with documentation) or updates to Baseball Almanac.
