TURGAY ŞEREN (1932- )
,
Born in 1932, Turgay Şeren graduated from Galatasaray Lycee and became one of the greatest goalkeepers in Galatasaray history. He made his debut with the Turkish senior national team in 1950. He continued to wear the national shirt in 49 matches and captained the team in 35 matches.

After the 2 - 1 triumph of the Turkish national team in Berlin on June 13th, 1951, against a German side which was considered by many authorities as the best team of its time, the German Kicker Magazine had Turgay Şeren, the goalkeeper of the Turkish team, on the cover with a headline "How on earth could someone jump so high?". His heroic moves in that game gave him the nickname "the Panther of Berlin." He was only eighteen at that time!

Turgay Şeren was named as the Galatasaray club captain in 1959 in and continued to lead the team until 1966, the year he retired from football. His superb reflexes and unusual moves in goal made him one of the best goalkeepers of his time. The goalkeeper, who broke a record by playing in a Galatasaray shirt for 19 years, coached various clubs, including Galatasaray.

Şeren, who has never lost his ties with football, now works as a sports columnist, as a commentator and presides over the Professional Footballers Associations.

Still a favourite among Galatasaray fans, his leadership qualities and God-given talents, made Turgay Şeren an essential part of Turkish and Galatasaray Football history.
