McAlpine selected as Construction Contractor.

Planning Permission for Phase 1 granted by London Borough of Newham.

- Footbridge
Completed.
- The pedestrian
footbridge linking ExCeL with the south side of Royal Victoria Dock
is now complete.
- The 125m
span bridge provides access from ExCeL to the attractive Barrier Park
being developed alongside the River Thames close to the Thames Barrier.
- Eastern
Accessway - Construction of ExCeL's four lane eastern entrance link
road is well advanced. The new section of dual carriageway will carry
traffic approaching ExCeL from Royal Albert Way and will form the final
stage of the new, four lane highway connection to the M11 & M25 motorways.
Exhibition Halls

- ExCeL's
exhibition halls provide a total of 65,000 sq.m. of column free space
equally distributed in two halls to the north and south of the Central
Boulevard.
- The Boulevard
provides access to the exhibition halls via flexible registration areas
equipped with I.T. facilities. For major shows, registration can also
take place at ExCeL's two main entrances at the Boulevard's eastern
and western ends, creating a total event area of 90,000 sq.m.
- Each
exhibition hall can be partitioned into 2,000 sq.m. modules and multiple
entrance points from the Boulevard ensure all parts of the show are
easily reached by visitors with no stand ever more than 90m from an
entrance point.
- Dedicated
food & beverage and service points serve each module and their siting
at the front and rear of the halls, draws visitors through the show.
- Service
ducting beneath the hall's floors carries all services including state
of the art I.T.connections.
