The Henrietta Szold Institute, the National Institute for Research in the Behavioral Sciences, is Israel's foremost planner of behavioral science intervention and training programs. The institute's primary specialization is education. Over the past five decades, the Institute, which was founded in 1941 by the renowned American Zionist, Henrietta Szold, has developed a large portfolio of research studies and training and intervention programs, many of which are fundamental to our understanding of Israeli education and society.
Areas of Activity
Research Planning and Implementation
The Institute undertakes educational follow-up studies and surveys commissioned by public institutions and private concerns.
Evaluation Services for the Education System
Services include compiling Israel's national matriculation examination questionnaires; translating and updating intelligent tests for children; administering lower secondary school placement tests; screening students for placement in special schools; administering the placement feedback system.
Information Center
The Institute also operates a Behavioral Science Information Center, which is responsible for compiling information databases and providing social science information services to the public. The Center also houses a School for Information Skills and the Institute library.
The Center for Research and Development in Advanced Management in the Educational System
The Szold Institute specializes in research and consultation services and also in developing new approaches in advanced management in education. These new methods serve the individual in the system, the organization, and the system overall.
Intervention and Training Programs
A number of applied research studies have been developed as educational projects and are now available in scores of Israeli schools. Among these projects are the Program for Uncovering Hidden Talent in the Arts and Sciences; Evaluation Based Teaching and Students as Peacemakers.

The Institute has developed innovative in-service training and enriched courses and workshops in different areas
Publications
The Institute has a published a significant body of highly acclaimed research reports, bibliographies, monographs, reviews of professional publications, training manuals and reference publications. Together these have made an invaluable contribution to social science education in Israel.
