Other Ports

In addition to shipment through BMA's own Hay Point Coal Terminal, our export coal is shipped through two other public port facilities.

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal

Dalrymple Bay

Dalrymple Bay

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), located adjacent to BMA's Hay Point Coal Terminal, commenced operations in 1983 as a common-user facility. At present, DBCT handles the products of 10 northern Bowen Basin mines, including BMA-managed operations. DBCT has three berths, each with a shiploading capacity of 7,200 tonnes per hour (tph). DBCT throughput capacity is around 54 million tonnes per year.

DBCT, which is owned by the Queensland Government, is leased under a long-term lease to a consortium led by international investment banking group Babcock & Brown. Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd continues to operate and maintain the facility.

Port of Gladstone

Gladstone Port

Gladstone Port

The Port of Gladstone situated on the east coast of Queensland, is one of the world's top five coal export ports, handling in excess of 38 million tonnes of coal per annum. Coal is the port's largest trade, representing over 70% of the total cargo exported through the port.

Central Queensland Ports Authority owns and operates two coal export terminals in the Port - RG Tanna Coal Terminal and Barney Point Terminal. Combined, these two terminals have the capacity to handle over 45 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).

Export coal from Blackwater,Gregory and Crinum mines is shipped through the Gladstone Port Authority's RG Tanna terminal, where a stockpile capacity of 1.2 million tonnes has been reserved. The terminal has the capacity to load vessels of over 220,000 dead weight tonnes (dwt) at three berths from two mobile gantry shiploaders, each with a nominal loading rate of 4,000 tph.

Barney Point was constructed in 1966 to handle coal from the southern Bowen Basin mines. The terminal has a stockpile capacity of 400,000 tonnes and can part load ships of up to 150,000 dwt at a single berth with a travelling gantry shiploader which operates at a nominal loading rate of 2,000 tph.
