EVA GETS NEW LOOK

Taking fashion and function to new heights, EVA Air is outfitting its cabin crew with brand-new uniforms.  The striking new ensembles were unveiled in an April 1, 2003 event staged at the airline's Training Center in Nankan, Taoyuan County, Taiwan.  The choreographed presentation fused the glamour of a fashion runway with the practical requirements of inflight service, and spotlighted crewmember models who demonstrated their duties against the backdrop of a full-scale aircraft cabin.

Featuring dark green dresses with cropped jackets, the new uniforms are designed to be attractive, durable, comfortable and practical.  Dresses created for chief pursers are distinguished by orange pinstripes while those for flight attendants have white pinstripes.  Jackets for chief pursers are deep green accented with orange around the neckline and gold bands at the cuffs, and those for flight attendants are olive with complementary green trim at the neck.  Fashionable full-length overcoats and Italian-designed bags and shoes perfect the new look.

“Our new uniforms reflect our growth and maturity as an international airline, and our transition from the start-up days,” said Steve Lin, president of EVA Airways Corporation.  “We began with enthusiasm, vitality and unlimited potential.  Today, we have a worldwide network and an expanding passenger base of business and leisure travelers who reward our quality service and attention to detail with every flight they book.”

EVA selected its new uniforms from a collection of concepts submitted over a period of two years by more than 20 clothing design companies.  The airline made its final decision by inviting cabin crewmembers to weigh relevant factors, including appearance and use, and to vote for the one they liked best.

Evergreen Group Chairman Y.F. Chang was instrumental in the design of the new uniforms, refining details such as gold buttons with the Evergreen Group logo and adding tasteful gold bands on the cuffs of the chief pursers' jackets to distinguish rank.  He further enhanced the good looks and classic lines of the airline's fashions by proposing smaller wings and badges.

Practical features such as recessed jacket pockets have been added to the uniforms to enhance mobility in the cabin.  Construction is of an elegant, high-quality wool and hard-wearing synthetic fabric blend.  Linings are made from 100 percent natural fibers.

The new design replaces the bold green, two-piece suits accented with green and orange neckties that crewmembers have worn since the airline launched service almost 12 years ago.
The EVA uniform unveiling event was produced using a dramatic t-shaped runway built over the evacuation pool in EVA's Training Center.  The show was a rare presentation fashion put to the test of practicality and function.  Models, including two EVA captains and 15  crewmembers, performed their choreographed cabin service demonstrations against a background of EVA's boarding music, cabin announcements, and airport lobby sound effects.

Taiwan-based EVA serves a worldwide network of major leisure and business destinations in Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America.
