This new route provides the first opportunity to fly directly between Greenland and the USA.
The opening of the route was celebrated yesterday, May 23rd, with a reception at the Danish Embassy in Washington, where representatives from the Greenland Home Rule and Branding Greenland also took part. The first flight today, May 24th, will be marked both at Baltimore Airport before departure for Kangerlussuaq, and upon arrival at Kangerlussuaq at 21.00 hrs, where Air Greenland is to host a reception.
Members of the Joint Committee (the co-ordinating committee between Greenland and the USA) are amongst the passengers on the flight to Kangerlussuaq.
Until the middle of June there will be one flight a week, but during the peak season from mid June until mid August Air Greenland will operate two weekly flights, on Mondays and Thursdays, and then revert back to one weekly flight on Thursdays until the season for the route closes on September 20th.
Air Greenland Travel offers package tours to the USA from Greenland, and Greenland Travel in Copenhagen offers package tours to Greenland on the American market.
