  Vanuatu-China Relations
 

1.Bilateral Political Relations

  1. On March 26, 1982£ºVanuatu and China established diplomatic relations.
  2. In June 1982 and in September 1986 respectively: Vanuatu ambassadors (roving) to China to present credentials.
  3. In 1996: An Honorary consul was appointed to Hong Kong and withdrawn in 1998.
  4. In August 1999:Vanuatu Honorary Consulate to Beijing was established.
  5. In August 2005: Vanuatu Honorary Consulate to Beijing was upgraded to the Embassy of the Republic of Vanuatu to China, Vanuatu first resident Ambassador was accredited.
  6. From 14th 20th, January 2006: Hon. Sato Kilman, the Deputy Prime Mninster and Foreign Minister of The Republic of Vanuatu, paid an official visit to China.
  7. In 16th January 2006: The Embassy of the Republic of Vanuatu to China was officially opened.
  8. In 1989, China Embassy to Vanuatu was established.
  9. In 1991, China¡¯s resident Ambassador was accredited.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, both governments have made tireless efforts and cooperation endeavors to promote and further strengthen friendship and cooperation for the benefit of our respective peoples and nations. The leaders between China and Vanuatu have met frequently with the purpose of maintaining global peace and stability and promoting common development issues.

2.Bilateral Economic And Trade Relations

In 2002, the total volume of the bilateral trade was US$1.671 million, the annual increase is 13.6% of total. China¡¯s export was US$1.406 million, the yearly growth is 22.2 percentage; while its import was US$265,000, a year-on-year drop of 17.5%. China's main exports are garments, shoes, textiles, medicines, foods and light industrial products; and its imports are mainly plants to be used for killing insects and bacteria, as well as buttons and sown timber.
