The Cheetah Girls 2 - Synopsis

The Cheetah girls – four singers who come from different backgrounds but share a love of music and performing - are ready to get the party started now that school’s out and it’s time for summer vacation. Their summer plans are dashed though, when they find out that Chanel will be going to Spain for a month to be with her mother, Juanita and her boyfriend, Luc. Always the one to come through in times like these, Galleria enters the Cheetah girls into a music festival in Barcelona. Soon, all the Cheetahs, Chanel’s mother, and Galleria’s mother Dorothea are living it up at Luc’s villa in Spain.

The Cheetah’s intend to rock Barcelona, but with so much to see and do, they get a little sidetracked. Chanel makes friends with the Cheetah’s number one competitor, talented singer Marisol, Dorinda finds a dream guy who shares her passion for dancing, and Aqua finds an amazing opportunity to explore her desire to design. Galleria just can’t seem to keep the girls’ eyes on the prize, and the Cheetah Girls are in danger of losing more than just a singing competition.

The Cheetah Girls 2 was directed by Kenny Ortega, who also directed High School Musical, and his talent for delivering teen drama comes through again. Not only does Kenny have a finger on the pulse of teen heartbeats, he also understands their parents. Like High School Musical, The Cheetah Girls 2 is clean and fun. Even the characters’ outfits are appropriate. (The phrase “Oh my God” is used once, but is somewhat in the background of the scene.)

The Cheetah Girls 2 contains the expected cheesiness, drama, and unrealistic plot, but I have to admit that I was totally taken in. Young girls will go crazy over this movie, because it has all the elements - excitement, friendship, romance, and mystery – and every girl loves to watch a dream come true. The story also has a solid moral, and the movie delivers the intended themes of “celebrating a multi-cultural world, expressing oneself and appreciating family” (as stated by Scott Garner, Senior Vice President, Programming, Disney Channel).
