Chris Dodd Is Ripe For the Picking for GOP in 2010—Sen. Kudlow of Connecticut?
By Michael Barone, Thomas Jefferson Street blog
Here's a link to the always-worth-reading Ironman on the 2010 Connecticut Senate race, in which Christopher Dodd, heading toward his 30th year in the Senate and his 36th year in Congress, seems to be in serious trouble.
Yes, Connecticut is a Democratic state. But Dodd (1) got a "Friends of Angelo" loan from Countrywide Mortgage; (2) as Senate Banking Committee Chairman in 2007 spent most of the year campaigning in Iowa for president, even renting a house there; (3) purchased a house in Ireland with the help of a convicted felon whom he persuaded Bill Clinton to pardon; (4) in 2005 led the fight against tougher regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; and (5) has been among the biggest recipients of Fannie Mae contributions over the years. In past elections Dodd has been running against underfinanced opponents in an increasingly Democratic state as an officeholder about whom voters have a vaguely favorable impression but don't know very much about. In 2010 he seems likely to face an entirely different situation. Mentioned as possible opponents are former Congressman Rob Simmons (who lost his eastern Connecticut House seat in 2006 by 83 votes) and CNBC anchor and former Reagan budget official Lawrence Kudlow, among others. I think this seat is ripe for the picking

Dodd ripe for the picking
Only hope the Democrats are smart enough to run someone/anyone against Dodd in the primary. Without that happening, and Dodd's challenger winning, a Republican or possibly 3rd party candidate will be victorious in general election.
Dodd, like other elected officials in our government has lost the confidence of the people of Connecticut, the country, the world. Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Mayors and
most municiple employees are no longer held accountable for their actions. These people feel the rules do not apply to them. Senator Chris Dodd is the poster child for these people.
Asleep at the wheel as Chairman of Senate Banking Committee during the worldwide financial meltdown, a lost year in Iowa accepting "contributions" from banking + mortage giants, a "V.I.P." loan from Countrywide, a castle in Ireland purchased under a cloud of suspicion, millions raised from those he was suppose to be monitoring and holding accountable...
DODD HAS GOT TO GO IN '10, LIEBERMAN IN '12! LET THE REVOLUTION BEGIN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A shoe-in of a slogan...
Whoever faces off against Dodd for the GOP, they will have an easy ready-made theme, and it's a no-brainer.
It's "C H A N G E" ...
Dodd ripe for the picking
Boy I sure hope you are right. I live in Connecticut and would absolutely love to see Mr Dodd leave the Senate (and the State for that matter - I'm even ok if he exits the country). Larry Kudlow as his replacement.....I can't let myself get that excited - too good to be true.
I just don't understand why Mr Dodd would insert a pay cap into the stumulus for WS bankers - many of whom live in Fairfield County CT (like myself) and pay significant CT income taxes. Has anyone told him that CT is in the top 10 states of budget shortfall? I don't think we are anywhere near the top 10 in population.
The only reason I can think of to drive his action is he intends to move to another state.....
