SPECIAL REPORT: PRINCESS DIANA, 1961-1997

QUEEN STEPS IN
Queen Elizabeth II will attend a Royal Academy of Music's Symphonia and Chorus concert in place of Princess Diana to benefit two of the princess's favorite charities, the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and the Royal Academy of Music, Buckingham Palace has announced. Organizers of the Nov. 12 Mozart concert in London asked the queen to attend, "and Her Majesty is delighted to do so," it was said. Diana was president of the hospital at the time of her death and was president of the Royal Academy of Music from March 1985 until July 1996, the month before her divorce from Prince Charles became final.

INTRUDER AT DI'S PALACE
A man who wanted to pay a final tribute to Princess Diana broke into Kensington Palace, where he was found walking the halls in search of her apartment, clutching a single flower, police and London's Express newspaper said Thursday. He was described as an obsessed fan who somehow gained entry to the palace Tuesday afternoon when a maid discovered him. He fled, and the maid called the police, the paper said. Officers arrested him outside the palace shortly thereafter. "There does not appear to have been any criminal motive," the police said. "We are looking into the security implications of this incident, but as far as this gentleman is concerned, no further action will be taken against him."
