about us
We are one of the oldest regional clubs in the United States. The WSSTC was formed in 1934 by founding members George Hudson and Grace Severson. Mr. Hudson, a silversmith, designed the club logo we have today. In the early 1940s the WSSTC was accepted as a regional organization by the Scottish Terrier Club of America. Our first specialty was held in 1944, when Blackbriar Brooke, owned by Blackbriar Kennel of Bellevue, WA took top honors.- In 1947 the WSSTC was incorporated in the state of Washington as a non- profit organization and today, as always, we continue to serve the best interests of the breed with volunteers.
- In 1962, the year of the Seattle World's Fair, we were one of ten specialty dog clubs holding a show called "The Associated Canine Specialties" which won wide acclaim for it's exhibition.
- In 1967, WSSTC's then-member, Bob Bartos, showed Carnation Farms' Eng/Am./Can. Champion Bardene Bingo to Best In Show at Westminster - the most prestigious and sought after dog show win in all the United States. Ch. Bardene Bingo is still listed among the top producers of Scottish Terrier champions. To this day, Bob and "Bingo" are retained in the minds of Scotty people as among the "greats".
Members Fred & Christine Stephens' Glenby Scottish Terriers have received many top awards for their successes in the show ring and whelping box; Margie and Dick Viciguerra's lovely Am. Ch. Winwar Cosmopolitan, "Cosmo", went to Germany in 1994 and received a World Champion Title.
WSSTC membership is made up of Scottie folks involved with Scotties at many levels. Some are owners, breeders, AKC judges, dog show exhibitors, rescue workers, etc. As varied as the member's interests are, the common bond among them all is the love for this special breed.
Our ANNUAL SPECIALTY entries are strong and include Scotties from all over the U.S. that compete in obedience, conformation, and even agility. The show also attracts Junior Showmanship entries.
In addition to the specialty, our club engages in many public activities aimed at improving the health, training, conformation, and grooming of the Scottish Terrier.
Fa-La-La Day in May is a special event hosted by the WSSTC. It's truly "fun & games" for Scotties and their owners. Club members get together for Summer Picnics, Howl-O-Ween and Christmas parties too. Each year the WSSTC holds a grooming seminar that is always anticipated by the membership..
